Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Here's another one of my knives I find quite unusual. As I mentioned before, I have a large collection of older knives, I don't specialize in any particular maker...just love the older ones. I'd like to know more about this "Physican's Knife" made by Wadsworth & Son. It has strong snaps and including a half snaps for both blades. The nail pulls are very long. The handle material is some kind of hard wood held together with brass pins while the flat end (pill crusher??) appears to be German silver. Can anyone tell me more about this knife, possible period of manufacturer. scarce or common?  Thanks so much and it's get to have a site such as this as I have a slew of knifes I'd like information on.

Don- A very nice knife find !!  A.W. Wadsworth & Sons -Germany was a brand of the many used by Adolph Kastor & Bros. of NYC, a major importer and distributor of cutlery which later became Camillus Cutlery Co. MOST resources date Wadsworth knives to circa 1905-1936.However,respected knife historian Bernard Levine dates these to Circa-1905-1922. Also a few others date them to 1895-1922. Anyhow, most were made in Solingen, Germany at Germania Cutlery Works which was managed by Adolph Kastor's brother, Nathan.Occasionally, you will find a Wadsworth knife stamped Austria, which was made at another facility.A.W. Wadsworth & Sons knives are generally regarded as Medium as to collector value. You will occasionally find their miniature scout knives and other jack knives and whittlers on sale in the $50-$100 range. However, I have yet to find another example of an A.W. Wadsworth Physicians knife anywhere, which leaves me to believe it is fairly rare.Plus, there are many knife collectors out there that collect Wadsworth knives in particular or Adolph Kastor knives in general. I would guestimate your knives value at $100+.
