What are your favorite knife shapes

Ok, I have a question for all of you knife lovers out there: What is your favorite blade shape?

And we will put this in 2 catigories

1)Fave shape for use

2)Fave shape as far as just pure cool factor goes, what shape do you like just purely for the looks.

If you can please post pics, draw it, take a picture, or grab something offline (if you can). Not everyone will know exactly what the technical name for a certain blade shape may be.

Also lets hear why you like each and what makes the blade hold that special place in your heart.

1)As far as my favorite shape of blade to carry it has to be the Tanto blade. i like the long flat surface which is great for cutting rope and cable, the up-swept front of the blade makes for a nice smaller surface for getting into smaller areas. It has the nice point at the transition of the blade that can be use for precision cutting and the tip is a nice strong tip while being delicate enough for smaller jobs like digging out a splinter.

2) As far as my favorite shape that inspires me... its the kukri that really inspires me. I like the flow of the blade and the copping power of the design. I have made several attempts at designing one that fits well for me. It is just a beautiful blade that has a lot of power behind it.

I'm in agreement with you Kit, that tanto blade =strength, power and durability. First time I used it I loved it and will buy more.

2) Is a good question, I guess a traditional drop point

i love more of the bowie type with a bit of a up sweep blade.also the grizzly by bill luckett is another.......

As far as big knives go, I like the traditional clip point "Bowie" types. I LOVE the old spear points, just can't find one I'm willing to justify paying for. ;)

I made a mistake on the PAL, it's an RH 37.

It went through the pacific Island campaign with with a SEABEE named Homer Gordon. Homer was killed in crop dusting accident in 1952 which is the year I was born. His older brother, Freddie, willed me the knife upon his death in 1993. Freddie also willed me Homer's M-1 that he brought back home after the war. That particular knife is pretty special to me.

That Stone knife has been though a LOT of deer and antelope since I bought it back in the 80's.
