I've never been able to settle on a particular brand.  I suppose I should have a preference after 55 years of using them, but I don't.

Like Jeremy I don't know how I missed this discussion until now.  My two favorite brands are Case and Rough Rider with Case being first because they are American made.  I like RR because of the variety available and the value for the money.  RR may not be equal to Case for quality but for the most part I don't think they are far behind.  I am not trying to build a collection that will be valuable some day, I am trying to build a collection that I like.  And I like RR's.

Right now I am concentrating on the RR Rifleman Series.  I like this series because the shield is a Model 1873 Winchester rifle and I have a '73 Winchester rifle.  There were twelve in the series and I have been able to acquire eleven of them.  The only one I am missing is the RR705 trapper.  It is amazing to me that a trapper has been so hard to find.

If anyone has one or knows someone who has one, please let me know.  I have been searching high and low with so far no luck.

In traditional folders, I love Great Eastern, with Case an Rough Rider coming in close behind.

As far my modern knives go, for hard use, my Emerson and light duty would be my Spydecos.

I buy my knives for the quality and value, I don't care where they're made.

I love all my children equally...lol

Queen, Case, GEC for folders  with Colt as jusy kind of an everyday brand. Fixed Blades are Queen, and then mostly custom.
