How to make a willow whistle from a piece of weeping willow. This is how my great uncle showed me when I was 8~10.

Great instructions!!!  I think even I could follow those.  But weeping willow is scarce in FL.  Anything else I could try it with?

.. any of the willow family .. anything where the bark is easily removed should wk .. after googling it .. I read reports of maple being used .. I've only used willow.

That's right .. the reason I know is my G'dpa's older brother .. and when I'm gone .. my daughter knows !!!

 

As I recall .. Uncle Walter used a stockman .. I don't know what kind. 

...... and another vivid memory .. Aunt Elbie's sugar cookies .. they were GREAT !!!

I used to make wooden whistles when I was a kid! 

We were talking about having a safety whistle with you in your go bag.  I think knowing how to make one would be just as important!!

Knowing how to make one of these facilitates making one out of whatever is available .. the basic concept is the same. The old adage .. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
