Before I sent anything like those I would call Case and make sue they would do work on them.
I agree. Case is good about answering questions.
I just sent them a e-mail asking. Hope the don't kick me out of the CCC for asking. I just got my membership card in the mail.
LOL! No, guys ask all kinds of weird stuff! Not that what you're asking is weird........you know what I mean.
You could also just ask on the CCC forum.
Lee,
They may say no but it doesn't really reflect on the Classic Line. Is it really a Case YES! It was produced by/for Case Cutlery and at that time, by the owner of the company. Sending an email was the right thing to do, Case has a very specific warranty
" If your knife meets our warranty guidelines and cannot be repaired, we may, at our discretion, offer to replace it with a currently manufactured knife that most closely matches the one you sent. If you decide to accept the replacement knife option, your old knife cannot be returned. A knife with sentimental or collectable value will be returned and not replaced as noted. If your knife cannot be repaired and does not meet our warranty guidelines, it will be returned “as is”. Some knives cannot be repaired depending on the limited availability of parts. Please note all repairs are made with currently manufactured parts"
So if you have a 1964 balloon whittler they possibly wouldnt work on it either, those parts likely would not be available either
I have sent them a couple of old stockmans and the just sent them back with a nice note saying that they can not be repaired. I still have not gotten a reply from my e-mail. it's only been a couple of days though.
I am just glad they are willing to just send them back as is if they can not fix it, some wont. They just reserve the right to send you a new knife
Dear Lee,
Thank you for contacting us. This is not a silly question at all. And more importantly, we sincerely appreciate your interest in our products and wouldn't consider anything other than building your passion for our knives!
The Case Classics were a licensed product family that we formed originally with a former owner of W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co., James Parker, in 1989-1990. There's actually quite a history here, and I invite you to explore the Case Classics website, as there is a nice write up explaining these knives at http://caseclassicsclub.com/history.htm.
The knives that were produced as Case Classics you mention, originally carried a one year warranty. However, since they are essentially Case knives, regardless of where and when they were produced, we do what we can to cover them under our current W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. manufacturer's warranty. A word of caution is that while we can do small work, such as cleaning and sharpening for you with regards to these knives, the tooling and components for these knives no longer exist. If it is a warrantied item, we would replace it with a currently manufactured item by Case.
I hope that this information assists you in your decisions regarding repairing your knife. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team and Case Collectors Club at 888-445-6433 or email consumer-relations@wrcase.com or casecollectorsclub@wrcase.com respectfully.
Thank you again for your dedication and I hope that you enjoyed yourself at the recent Shepherd Hills Cutlery Celebration in the Ozarks.
Kind Regards,
Katie
