Go fishing with family and friends without buying a fishing license during Georgia's 2015 Free Fishing Days

June 6, 2015

June 13, 2015

September 26, 2015

  • June 6 and June 13 are the two Saturdays that occur during National Fishing and Boating Week
  • September 26 is National Hunting & Fishing Day (fourth Saturday in September of each year)

Free Fishing Days are declared by the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources to: encourage people to try fishing and help celebrate fishing as wholesome and healthy recreation; promote respect for our state's natural resources, wilderness, and wildlife; and recognize anglers for their contribution of billions of dollars to the state's economy and financial support for programs to conserve and protect our natural resources.

What happens on a Free Fishing Day?

  • Georgia residents 16 years and older do not need a fishing license, trout license, or Wildlife Management Area license (if you fish at a Public Fishing Area or Waters Creek) to fish the freshwaters and saltwaters of Georgia.
  • This does not include fees at private ponds and lakes.
  • All other fishing regulations remain in effect.

Fun Idea! Not sure where to go on a Free Fishing Day? How about to a Kids Fishing Event? Click here to find out more about Kids Fishing Events and click here to view the program calendar to search for upcoming Kids Fishing Events.

Illinois moves there around I think  They had a three or four day period about two weeks ago.   Unfortunately it wasn't well announced and I missed it.

Saturday, June 7, is Free Fishing Day in Tennessee and anyone (resident or non-resident) of any age may fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters! Even better, if you are 15 years old or younger, you may fish free the entire week, beginning on Free Fishing Day, June 7, and running through the following Friday, June 13... this is what i found for TN. little too late for this year tho.

Note: Georgia DNR has Agreements with Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina that allow holders of Georgia fishing licenses to fish in the waters covered without obtaining a fishing license from the bordering state. See Agreements With Bordering States.

Our's was last weekend, our county also hosted a free fishing rodeo at the Hatchie NWR for kids , 12 and under!

wow.. that is good..about 15 years ago I had a friend from Georgia stay with me on vacation for a week in Homestead Florida.I took him fishing in my boat, not  thinking of him needing a license for a day since me and my son both had a license. My boat was registered also...and trailer, registered. We were checked at the dock on the way in..he got ticketed for no license, I believe it was $250.00 .I could be mistaken, but it was somewhere close to that.He also had a cooler, with his name written on it..he had like 5 or 6 snapper in it...Ugg...$50 per fish..I had mine and my sons limit in my cooler,so it turned out to be his most expensive fishing trip he had ever experienced....but, he did have a great day fishing, and later told me that it was his best day he had  in as long as he could remember...:-) I guess the moral of that story is...A GOOD DAY FISHING, IS STILL WORTH OVER 500 BUCKS !..LOL

Alabama's free fishing day was June 6.  But for me every day is free fishing day and free hunting day.
