Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I really love GEC knives and intend to get a few more. The big attraction to me is how hard the back spring is, sometimes a battle to get it open and the way it stops half way. I guess that and the "old world quality" are what appeal to me.

I'm just curious to know if the half stop is on most of their knives. The "Melon tester" doesn't have it, understandably perhaps.

, I've been looking at some knives which are called EZ open, if they are easy open then they won't have the half stop, now to me, well that would put me off buying the knife.I like the battleship qualities......can anybody tell me how many knives don't have the half stop? and which ones?

I too like the stoutness of the GEC's, which I think are the best made on the market today.

I can only vouch for the GEC's I own: the #73 Scout, #23 Pioneer, #54 Moose, #54 Whittler have half stops. As mentioned the Melon Tester doesn't along with: #12 Toothpick, #53 Cuban Stockman.

I can't say for the other ones, which means I need to get back to collecting.
Ray,

Cut and paste this to chris@greateasterncutlery.net. She will be able to tell you EXACTLY what you need to know and will get back with you within a day. I can tell you most of them do have but sure not all. Chris is your besy bet for a complete list... Jan Carter
Thanks for the replies
Jan I will try that when I've decided what my next knife is going to be
The #72 lock backs don't have a half stop, the #73 and the new #23 liner locks DO have the half stop. Bob
In reference to backsprings;
Occasionally someone will want to see my knife or use it in the kitchen or cut something.
If I am carrying a GEC, i find myself warning them about the backspring and feeling uneasy as they open it up.
It is of course unlike any other knife they have ever opened or closed. If I know them to be a goofball or "clumsy", I will say, let me help you cut that pound cake or cut that cord.
I was hurredly whacking away on some croc sticks about 10 minits before church started one Sunday morning
and bit myself about 3 stitches worth. Of course the stitches were never installed.
I caught the business for that one. She said, "did you really need to sharpen your knife 10 minits before church?"
The world will never understand us!!!
Paul,

Just can't go to church with a dull knife, that would be wrong. Dont think it counts as a sin, except by other knife folks. :)
AMEN, brothers
