J.J. says take your knife pics outdoors
I can go with that!!
On a CLOUDY day is best
"They say"

It does seem like glare is definitely a issue with knife pics
I always spend a lot of time trying to adjust my lighting to avoid major glare spots

The pictures you take are good. With as many knives as you have to take pictures of do you find yourself looking for new back grounds?

That is something I struggle with a little to try to find something different and unique and yet lends itself to the knife... Does that make any sense?

I take Larry's pictures in morning light before the sun gets high.  I have a display box in a window with white plastic where the glass used to be to  difuse light  and use a window shade to control how much light I get. I use an old Minolta Dimage A1 which is absolutely an awesome camera that I would not part with for anything.  I do not know how to take pics...I wing it.  Had one published in Blade magazine a few years ago so I guess I'm not doing too bad!LOL

With shorter days its getting harder. I really have better luck outdoors and in or on a sunny day.

Pentax Asahi Spotmatic was my first 35mm camera! Got it when I was about 6 years old. That brings back serious memories of shooting and hours spent in the darkroom with my Dad developing those shots!

Understand the "getting lost" part. Cut my teeth on the likes of this...

Digital pics are definately easier to edit and manipulate. No filters to really have to worry about and like Rusty said, immediate previews.

wow I have to dig out my old 35MM man I liked that camera had a big lens too!

I love outdoor light - When I see the golden light of the late afternoon shining across the fields I like to get my camera out and start snapping.

I run an older Nikon D40 with an 18-55mm Nikor lens.

I noticed that my sensor was very dirty when I checked this series of pictures - so I cleaned it up -

I typically use a pop-up light box with two or three fluorescent "daylight" bulbs in soft boxes, and then I have several "reflectors" made from cheap picture frames covered with aluminum foil - which I use to reflect light in places that otherwise have shadows.

Nice detail Moon! That's the way to do it indoors for sure. Otherwise head outside on a nice day and look for a good setting!
