Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I've been asked to add this discussion to our group.

There are a number of you who are being exposed to the NKCA for the first time or are interested in renewing your membership that lapsed sometime ago.

Here's what I'm asking- if you fit either of these two categories and have decided you are joining up (or back up) please let us know by adding such in the comment section below.

We'll be doing some revamping to the NKCA's website  to add functionality and features, but right now it does allow you to join/renew with instant payment via PayPal. Otherwise, you can mail the check to them.

The various levels and membership types are outlined there too. Here's the link. I'd really like the NKCA to see our support for this organization, so note to them when you pay you are a member of iKC! Thanks!

Hope you will join up or renew! At some point, we'll take on a project or two through our local chapter here too :)

I wanted to report back here that I received my welcoming letter, membership card and the book Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery by Gerald Witcher within the week that Gary had mentioned. I'd suggest that Gary and Lisa continue to shoot for a 7-10 days turnaround on getting out the membership packages vs. the 6-8 weeks mentioned on the NKCA website.

I have to say that the book Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery is a fantastic deal -- free with a membership. The title of the book is a little misleading. Mr. Witcher does not set out to teach the reader how to make fake knives. You are told how to LOOK at and FEEL knives to so as to avoid being fooled.

I have learned a lot from the book about the construction of knives and what to be looking for -- both with respect to picking out fakes, re-worked items and the like AND just basic quality of construction issues. I have gained a whole new level of respect for the cutler's art. There are scads of sample tang stamps -- lots of real oddballs that I'm positive I'll never see in person, but it's fascinating to see them cataloged with background info.

I checked Amazon and see that the book is available on a sort of limited basis. I see printed right on the cover of the softcover book "All Profit To Author And Publisher Donated To The NKCA". Could/should the NKCA be sellling the book off the website? If NKCA members could buy the book for maybe $19.95 + $5.00 s/h -- that would be $19.95 "profit" for the NKCA. Of course, I don't know anything about the supply of books that NKCA has and what the arrangement with Mr. Witcher might be.

Hi Jim glad you joined let me know if you do get your book in a timely manor ...<snip>...

I just wanted to provide an update to this on-going conversation. If you have joined and are unsure when your membership dues is due i have some good news. Despite having a few computer problems that have been fixed, the plan is to get a membership renewal notice out to members shortly.  had they not experienced the computer problem we might have had them already so be patient and notices will go out soon. If you get a renewal notice PLEASE RE-JOIN! the organization continues to need your support.

If for some reason you have come across dues money and you want to pay as soon as possible and can't wait for the notice, please email me and I will find out when you are due. Thank you.

Good Work Max.  Let's keep this wonderful organization alive

Yes Lets get everyone to  join this weekend!
