Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Here is a place to post those Steel Warriors and Frost branded knives. I know that a lot of you out there have them. I have heard mention of them from time to time.. I started really getting into collecting on a lot of these because you could get whole sets for very little money. S0 here is a place that you can show them.

LOL, maybe the pizza guy is a closet knife nut

The view from the couch is just awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jan, I think so too. Only issue coming down the road with the "stump" display is my 8 mo old grandson. He's big for his age, is nearly walking and pulls himself up & leans against the cabinet to reach up within a few inches of the top, (the little scamp really wants to get his hands on all that sharp, shiny stuff up there!). Like I said, I live in such a small space I will need to do some rearranging soon, (one bedroom apartment, here nearly 18 yrs now). He will eventually get it all anyway, but right now I need to keep his little mitts away from such things. What isn't shown in the photos is the 100+ yr old family hand tools, model airplanes & family photos hanging all over on the walls, (built/flew model planes with Dad from the age of 8, even competed nationally. Why not use them as "decor"?); the knives fit right in with all that. I guess all you need to do to know something about me is to look around my living space, it really is the story of my life on display.

Syd, many years ago, someone who saw my knife collection asked my daughter if I was a "serial killer"

Something snapped when I heard that comment. I went on rampage and attacked a homophone!

Get it "Cereal Killer!"    serial and cereal are homphones:  same sounding words with different spellings and meanings

Ha!! "Cereal" killer indeed!

I had a young, attractive female home health nurse visit one day a couple of years ago after a surgery, and when she saw all those knives her eyes got real wide. She didn't say anything, but I could tell it made her nervous. Dunno why though, I was all busted up and couldn't move off of the couch anyway, but she didn't waste any time making sure I wasn't dead and left. The pizza guy just looked over and said "Whoa!", then quickly left. Doesn't help that I look like Billy Gibbons, kinda intimidates some folks.

I have a place for Steel Warrior's lockback whittler.

I give them away to kids ..&.. adults w/ little experience but genuine interest.

The locking main blade provides some safety / prevention toward having the blade fold over in use & slicing the index finger .. to the bone. Not that I've ever personally done that. The coping & pen blades provide back-up cutting edges .. for those uninitiated into the required world of sharpening. And the price .. don't recall ever giving more than $7 for one. Currently on his site, they are listed $9 ~ $13 .. watch his omni-present sales & they can be had for less. Where there's genuine interest .. I can afford to gift these.

Many of us bemoan Frost Cutlery. I believe just as many own them. How else would we know what to criticize ?

Personally .. I like the lockback whittler in the blue bone.

Stock pic .. unabashedly copied from Frost site.

..............................................................................................

I've also a fondness for Case's Copperlock design.

So Steel Warriors midlock (copperlock clone) .. for under $15 .. holds certain appeal. I've modified a few of those.

Frosts locking whittlers are no worse quality than the Schrade cigar whittlers.  I have an early one that has a crappy lock, but even though it fails, there's no greater threat of it closing than with a non locking model.

Ive turned a couple of Frost lockbacks into decent carving knives.

LOL, I hope you have the sun glasses on when they come to the door!!

I do actually!! My door faces west, so in the late afternoon the sun shines right in when I open the door, so I keep my shades right by the door and just reach down and pop them on when I open it! Of course I already got shades for my grandson.....we're getting him a fake beard, and at Halloween his mom is puttin' on the shades & the beard, and he's going trick or treating as grandpa!

Well I might own quite a few Frost brands but I've bought very few Frost knives.   As I said on page about the show Cutlery Corner Network:

"Let this be a warning to you: if you have any thoughts of becoming rich selling these knives from your lunch box, let them pass. It probably won’t happen.  You are not going to be able to sell these knives at the retail price Tom gives you; they aren’t worth that price.  If Mr. O’Dell could sell the knives at the retail price he’s quoting; then he would do so.  Tom O Dell is a much better pitchman than you are; if he can’t sell them at a higher price, then rest assured that you won’t either. "

And that is my only rub with the show.  Sure they sell a bunch of junk knives but they have enough decent quality knives for sell that it is at least worth watching.  My only real complaint is the hidden shipping charges.  Had I not been in a pinch the last week or so there was about a half dozen knives that I would have bought simply because of the $5.99 shipping.   I really want to to know what the shipping charges are going to be BEFORE I start a transaction.  If CCN was up front on their shipping I'd be much more tempted to pick up the phone.

A couple of Croc Bones below.  These are among my favorite by Frost.

The Peanut was given to me by Billy O'Neale.  It is probalby the knife that made me re-think my position on Frost brands.  That lead to me having to buy the  Wrangler (Stockman) for whopping $14.00 off ebay.  I later snagged the toothpick as part of 4 toothpick bundle for around $12.00  All were 3 inch toothpick -- three by  Steel Warriors and one Whitetail.

That's the only time I ever buy from them, they have had two occasions in the last few months where their shipping charges were reduced enough to allow me to cherry pick a few folders off of their website. They are stuck in the 80's regards their marketing approach. There must be lots of gullible folks out there that keep buying those zombie knives for them to have succeeded with that "assume your customers are idiots" marketing approach. Either that, or Jim Frost is stuck in an 80's mindset, and is just too southern to break out of it. Online & TV shopping has evolved way beyond CCN's current policies, you'd think someone there would have kept up with the times and noticed that. It's reasonable for them to charge higher rates for big heavy boxes of knives of course, but if they were to offer reduced shipping that allowed people like me to place small orders their sales would increase exponentially I'll bet. They wouldn't need to act like pentecostal preachers trying to save us from that wicked "Genuine Retail Value!!". Silver lining is they do have a wide variety of nice knives available...they should just let the knives sell themselves, and leave all their snake oil at home.

Edit: Nice knives Tobias! It's cool you have the same handle in various frames.

Those croc bones were some of my favorite handles.
