Lobsters, crawdads, shrimp, etc are all bugs!  They're closest land dwelling relative is the wood louse (also called a doodle bug or roly-poly)  At least the alligator is a little further up the food chain.

I'm thinkin that gators are too ugly to eat, but then so are Lobsters and shrimp.

The hunters you see on TV, have paid a lease to the land owner to beable to hunt. They do it for a living and have a very large area to hunt. That's why they get so many tags. The season is only open during the month of September.

I have not hunted Alligators in a while, mostly because of my health. You must first have a place to hunt and then have it approved by the land owner then the Department of Wild Life and Fisheries. They come to your swamp, look around and then issue a certain amount of tags. Each Alligator can be worth several hundred dollars. It depends on the size and the market for that year.

Thanks Ken. I plan on taking a bunch of pictures. I just hope my health holds up.

That sounds like some good hunting Robert, hope you get some. Alligator mean is extra good.

Changing the subject, just a bit. I was approved this past weekend to apply for Alligator tags for our hunting club. I will have a two man crew and the money maid will go to the club. I just enjoy it. It's still up to the State on how many tags we get. I'm hoping for six [6].

Looking back on that episode, it was sorta funny but a sad situation at the same time.  I was in a two man unit that night.  We were dispatched to an apartment house on a disorder, man with a gun, call.  A K9 unit arrived at the scene at same time we did to back us up.  The three of us started for the front door of the apt. building and met a guy coming toward us.  He said, "There's a man with a gun.  I jumped out a second story window."  We went up the steps and at the top we say a man holding a shotgun pointing it into one of the apartments.  We all three aimed our pistols at him and told him to put the gun down.  He turned around to face us but didn't put the gun down.  We told him again.  He fumbled with the gun and said something which I couldn't make out.  The third time he was told to put the gun down.  We were on the verge of firing.  Finally he just dropped it.  The thing that saved his life was that he didn't make any threatening moves toward us (other than the gun sweeping us as he turned).

The funny and sad part is that it was the guys own apartment.  The guy that we met coming in had been in bed with this guy's wife.  No wonder he jumped out the second story window!  And there was another couple on the couch in the living room who were not married to each other.  He was holding them at bay naked.

Thank you Charles for your Policeman service and God Bless all our Policemen. That must have been a very tense situation. Glad it came out alright and nobody got hurt.

I did find myself facing a double barreled shotgun once.  While the incident was ongoing, I wasn't nervous.  I was calmly looking over my pistol sights at the guy waiting for the moment to shoot.  Fortunately after being told three times to put the gun down, the guy just dropped it.  Ironically then my knees did get a little weak.  That guy came awfully close to getting himself killed.  When I opened his shotgun, it wasn't loaded.
