LOL - good one Tobias. Those coons and possums can get scarry to.

Ken, I'm sure it is even more eerie when there are people out there who want to do you harm.  I thank God, I served during the peace time periods of the cold war.  Much nicer to "deter armed aggression" when bullets aren't firing.  Of course you can only deter armed aggression by admitting that people are out there trying to kill you instead of living a lie that if you are just pleasant to the person who wants to psychotic who wants to kill you everything will be fine!

These days my biggest fear is checking on a noise in the back yard with a baseball bat and and my standard go to knife, my Camillus Marine Corps Fighter.  Typically I try to scare the burglar away but most of the time all that happens is the 'possum hisses at me or the raccoon just gives me that "do you mind! I'm eating here" look.  I tell ya, I get no respect!

It does get eerie indeed Charles. I have done similar to your Police days when i was a Transit Officer with bomb threats on Train Station, always got an itchy feeling.

Tobias, I don't think a deer is going to be bothered by a small flicker of light off a knife blade anyway.  I have game cameras that are flash type.  The flash from the camera does not bother the deer.  A couple of weeks ago I was deer hunting.  It was nearly dark.  A saw a deer walk past my game camera.  The camera flashed at the deer three times.  The deer never paid any attention to the flash.  Just ambled on, didn't even look at the camera.

You guys in the service deserve more than we can ever repay you.  I can't imagine the feeling of that situation, knowing that you could be ambushed at any moment.  The closest I can come would be some of my police experiences.  Maybe pulling a vehicle over not knowing who is inside it or searching a building where an alarm has gone off.  Probably the incident that gave me the most goose bumps was searching a factory where a bomb threat had been called in.

I remember taking up the rear on night patrols - it looked like a  man
behind every tree - it was a very eerie feeling.

A carbon steel blade can loose it's shinny finish when a great patina forms. I let some of my carbon knives turn and some I don't. I just polish them once in a while. I don't go on night patrols either...lol

  Great river photo.

Alexander, I agree. Few people need to be as stealthy as an infantryman on patrol.  A deer is not going to be shining a flashlight in your direction.

Fair enought. I'm sure there is a small percentage of users that might benefit from non reflective surfaces. But I suspect that percentage is extremely small.

great pic Rusty. Tobias I fully agree with you, have done the night patrols as well and yes we covered what we could. A lot of the time was just using a type of scrim net
