Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I have recently been looking at emergency radios and I find myself a little lost.  Here I was thinking you just get one with a crank, store it until needed and done.  HA!!!

Being right at the tip of NC/GA border, a hurricane following us up here, was something last week were rather joking that we should have prepared better for.  I am thinking this should be a part of our prep for this winter.

Help me out here guys I am seeing them from 19.99 to 99.99 in the portables and I do want a portable.  Some have solar, some have USB, some crank some batteries some have all the options.  Really, this is not something I am going to use unless I have too.  What seems necessary to you and why?  Do you own one, used one?  HELP!!!

Hi Jan
I have been looking at them as well. Solar is not something I am looking at. If there is no sun for a few days then it will not charge well. I want something with battery and crank. I want weather and area alerts. Also radio AM and FM. A light would work as well. Small enough to carry. The red cross has one I am looking at but I would love to hear other opinions on this as well. Great topic!

I actually have a cheap one that I got for free (don't even remember where it came from). It is just a crank one with AM/FM and weather band. It also has a light built in. I have never had to use it yet, but have checked it every so often to see if it still works. Last Christmas, my dad put one on his list of items he wanted, so we got him a little nicer one. This is the one we got for him. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DVXDXQU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_...

Jeremy,

That is very close to the one I have been looking at

RunningSnail Solar Crank NOAA Weather Radio for Emergency

I like the options for charging and I like the reading light.  Most all of them have AM/FM & NOAA weather alert radio, broadcast emergency weather alerts. At $24.00 it is reasonable enough to keep on hand and not feel like it has to be used unless a power outage comes along
