Dave's one of my friends too, he might just rather stainless. That's okay with me.
  • Jan Carter

We have that talk all the time.  Dave is actually a steel junkie.  He prefers stainless in the field but he carries carbon also.  I am ok with stainless but I prefer carbon to any other knife blade
  • Jan Carter

OK, I figured out the dinner menu...anyone want to go fishin?

  • stephen tungate

  • Jan Carter

I dont know Stephen, some of them are pretty scary!!

  • Halicon

Shark fishing should only done with a diving knife and three cuts on your left arm for faster attraction.

Like hunting tiger in India with a bamboo spear while walking your goat.

  • stephen tungate

jan that just ruined my appetite for fish all i want is the corn bread now...
  • J.J. Smith III

Straw berries, black berries and blue berries there great. I'm trying to add more to the garden. You should eat as many as you can.
  • Jan Carter

We are planning on eating our way through the roadside fruit and veggie stands in PA.  The best time of year to travel and the best way to eat when you do.
  • J.J. Smith III

We're heading to PA near the end of the month.  The roadside stands there are great.  There's a stand, down the road from where we stay, that will sell homemade chicken-pot-pie, along with fresh corn. (Already have a couple of lunches planned...)
  • Jan Carter

Where in PA, meet us at the GEC factory its the last weekend of the month in Titusville!!!

Well I just bought a portable house for my oldest grand daughter to live in. I'll be busy for a while. My friends and I will wire, insulate, A/C, and the carpentry thats left to do. She is very exited, so am I. I put it on my land near my house, great spot. I'll post a picture soon. Darn, think of the knives I could have bought. Oh well, I guess that's what old paw paws are for.
  • Jan Carter

Thats wonderful Robert, she will be under a different roof but still home.  Can't wait to see the pictures
  • Jan Carter

BTW, she needs a nice porch for pawpaw to come over and rock and whittle on

    Jan,

We'll be down in Lancaster County, chillin with the Amish.  Gotta love the farmland around there

  • J.J. Smith III

    Wish me luck, folks.

Headin to the mountains for a few days to try to escape the heat.  Takin' a few extra green-backs, that I've managed to put back, hoping to fine something new in the sharp and pointy catagory.  SMKW is not in the picture but there are a couple of well supplied hardware stores nearby...

While we're gone, Uncle Silas will be minding the store.

  • Jan Carter

Rick, I like to season the coals for chicken with Rosemary  Just soak it before you put it in and as it dies it will flavor the meat.

JJ, Have a good time and let us know what you find

  • stephen tungate

have a great time jj maybe you can find something new for the menu.i hear we have a master judge on here for bbq arthur jordan maybe he can help.have fun....
  • stephen tungate

jan i soak wood chips of different  flavors in water and when they smoke it puts that smoke flavor in the meat....
  • Frank Stennett

Have a good trip J.J.  Stay away from thos whitler. They're contageous.
  • Jan Carter

    Stephen,

Whats your favorite wood.  I like apple wood for pork.  I usually through a tiny bit of lemon basil in with orange wood when grilling fish

  • Frank Stennett

No need to ruin good meat right off the street.
  • stephen tungate

yes jan those are very good flavors i also will use mesquite wood chips makes meat very tastey.....
  • Jan Carter

Sure hope JJ is having a good time and staying cool up there.  We should think of a special menu for when he gets back.  Anyone got anything laying around?
  • Jan Carter

How about some coon for grillin?  Raccoon Kabobs
    (Also known as "Ringtail Surprise")

Two pounds, reasonably fresh raccoon, cut into one-inch cubes; one-half cup homemade French dressing; two green peppers, cut into squares; one large onion, cut into one-inch pieces; one-third pound mushroom caps.

Place raccoon cubes in a ceramic bowl and pour dressing over cubes. Let marinate two or more hours. Remove cubes, reserving marinade. Alternate raccoon cubes with pepper squares, onion pieces and mushroom caps on skewers. Brush all with reserved marinade and broil over hot coals until done to desired degree. Turn frequently and baste with marinade as needed.

what kind of wood for this one Stephen?

  • stephen tungate

i think maybe some peach tree bark would fit this calling it will throw some peach flavor to the mix jan and maybe some peach schnapps to wash it all down.. jj see what your missing....
  • Jan Carter

    OK,

so much for the main dish, Stephen ahs the perfect wood for our fire.  How about if we add some fried Okra, greens and cornbread.  any ideas on the desert?

  • J.J. Smith III

    How bout saving some leftovers?

Peach cobbler sounds good for desert.  Topped with some home churned ice cream.

No new whittlers this trip.  Hope the PA trip will be more friutful.

I did find a new CASE Humpback Stockman with the black synthetic "GumFuddy" handles.  I've been looking at them for a while and decided to bite.  Don't know whow was in charge of sharpening, up at Bradford, the day it was made, but they sure got it right.  All three blades were shaving sharp, right out of the box.

I sure hope that there is some wi-fi available for our Pennsylvania trip, so I can halfway keep up with what's going on here at iKC.

  • Jan Carter

    JJ,

I will bet you had a time getting through the emails after this trip.  A lot of activity going on.  The Case looks great and I am sure it will work well for you.  Thanks for sharing that.  We left some dinner for you in the icebox buddy

    Welcome back JJ, nice humpback.
  • J.J. Smith III

Unless there's available wi-fi,  the next trip will be murder...

Ringtail Surprise was good.  Did you save the skin?  We could male a hat and sell it over in the gift shop.

  • Jan Carter

    I want one!
  • J.J. Smith III
