The girls want something different for supper, so I'm cooking squirrel spaghetti. They'll love it. Miss Jan, you can't have my reciepe.lol......Oh JJ. I got you beat, I cut my hair 5 times a year.
Yes mam, we eat left over broiled fish like that. Another way we eat left over fish is after a fish fry, we crumble up the fish and make it the way you would make "tuna fish salad" . My old paw paw said if the lord wanted a Cajun to eat Tuna Fish, "he'd put em in the bayou"....lol
Well I cooked a nice ham last night so tonight for dinner fried some leftover ham with some white beans and rice. Grated some fresh parmesan cheese over it all and melted it a bit in the microwave.
Toasted some nice sourdough bread.
Had a big bowl of fresh strawberries with whipped cream.
That's something, I cooked a ham the other day and have been eating left overs, one way or the other for a few days. We had it with mashed potatoes, whites beans and last night I had it with squash. I love ham, I make some home made hams sometime, real good. It just takes a while.
Dat's what I'm talking about...lol...When I make homemade hams I make three at a time. It's about the same amount of trouble to make one as three. I pickle them for three days in curring salt and smoke them for 10 to 12 ours. You better bet thier good. Hey I was thinking about starting a little discussion in here, for everyone to post a good reciepe. What do ya'll think?
Stay dry, looks like we are all in the same rain belt going on. I like the recipe idea, lets start it right here. JJ may be able to get us some from the diner!
While on vacation we always eat at this little place called "Huck Fins Catfish House..
There you are always seated by friendly people, a person playing musical instruments in the background .
The food is always started off with what they call Vittles consisting of coleslaw, hush puppies, dill pickles, onion slices and a bowl of beans.
From there on your on your own.....house cooked fresh catfish is abundant...your drinks are of course served in mason jars...lol
The restaurant walls are covered with flour sacks and lots of antique farming things so there is no dull walls ...hard wood floors... Great Southern Hospitality...
If your ever in Pigeon forge ....look it up.....we do on every visit.....
I think it would be great to see reciepes from people from all over the world, not the most special dish but an everyday meal that is cooked regularly. We could do it in 3 or 4 catagories, like one in "beef", "pork", "poltry", and in vegatables. It could be, like what's for supper tonight. We all live in different places around the world, with alot of different ways to cook the same meat, fish and vegies. Let's get a great IKC Reciepe Book going.
While in Atlanta, we got together with the couple from TX, the GEC folks from PA and off we went to the Varsity.
Originally named "The Yellow Jacket,' The Varsity was established in 1928 at the corner of Luckie Street and Hemphill Avenue in Midtown Atlanta. The main location is responsible for more retail sales of Coca-Cola, on an annual basis than any other single location in the world, a record which has stood for many years. Over the years The Varsity has become synonymous in Atlanta's folklore with a clever and unorthodox catchphrase. Originated by frazzled cashiers as a way to keep the lines moving, the blunt and abbreviated greeting "What'll ya have?" caught on with both staff and public and eventually became the restaurant's unofficial slogan. Today it appears on takeout boxes and cups as well as Varsity memorabilia and is the required greeting to all customers. It's the Worlds Largest Drive-In The Downtown Atlanta location is on more than two acres and can accommodate 600 cars and over 800 people inside. On days when the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets are playing a home game, over 30,000 people visit The Varsity.
Two miles of hot dogs, a ton of onions, 2500 pounds of potatoes, 5000 fried pies and 300 gallons of chili are made from scratch daily.
Wow, that's something ladies, great resturants are so nice to eat and visit at, most all love it. I ate a catfish dinner at a place in Texarkna that sounds alot like the one Miss Sue was talking about. It's all good! What do ya'll think about, my reciepe idea, good, bad, too much trouble, let me know what ya'll think?
We had Country style pork ribs along with corn on the cob and a medley of zucchini, potatoes, yellow squash, onions , garlic, and some fresh cut pineapple. Yours sure sounds good J.J.. I'm the only one in this family that likes crab legs and shrimp.
I am eating alot of stuff out the garden, fresh veggies and fruits. The figs have just started and we have been picking blue and straw berries. Oh, cucumbers and tomatoe salad, you bet. Corn, squarsh and my favorite snap beans. Poo-Yie, dats good, yah...lol
Well this is the first thing to ripen in our garden, so tonite , I cut it up topped it with cottage cheese, some shred sharp chedar we had fried taters, baked beans, grilled pork chops........dessert was almond shortbread with strawberries
That's a great bell pepper there Miss Sue, I plant sweet banana peppers also, they produce alot more early. I have been picking alot of figs recently, it's like candy on a bush..lol....I plan on posting an old Cajun corn recipe later.
It got so cool in California that I pulled a turkey out of my freezer and roasted it. So tonight is turkey, potatoes, asparagus, lots of gravy and rolls.
Boil the asparagus just enough to make it brighten up and then fry it on high heat. Make it hot enough to melt grated parmesan cheese. Add some fresh white corn cut straight from the cob and that's dinner!!
And actually roasting the turkey is just an excuse to make the gravy.
By, by knives.....I think we are adding on to the cotage, oh lord, help me. I can do it, yes I can do it. LOL. I'll keep ya'll posted on my progress. Poor PawPaw...
Yes Mam, I'm gonna add 12'x16' to it. They will have more storage and a bathroom. The running back to my house will be over. I knew when I got the cottage, I would have to add a bathroom one day. This is gonna be one big bathroom...lol
LOL...thats what he gets for spoilin' um right? Seriously Robert, good work. The girls want to stay close and this gives them the opportunity to not have to go live in town and just visit PawPaw
Hey Stephen, thats a great idea. We could call it "Coteauville" [Knife town, Cajun] [Spelling ?] I like having them close, Miss Jan, I'm disabled you know.
