Oh yeah. Beef, cheese and onions on a bun...
    Add some hot peppers, YUM.
Wonder if a Diet Coke would be ok.
  • Ron Cooper

Hear! Hear! Yeppers, the peppers are under those jalapenos. Diet Coke? No. I would go with the regular Coke. I mean, what the hay! Ya might as well go all the way! I went with the choco shake only because this place doesn't have my main drink, which is Dr Pepper. I've been a Pepper for more than 50 years. There's no turning back now.

I feel guilty eatin' burgers while y'all are feasting on crab n' catfish, mudbugs n' the like. Us California boys don't see those delicacies like you southern folks do. We have to settle for burgers n' tacos. Pizza n' burritos. How I would love to sit down to a table of fried catfish and hush puppies. With maybe some fried okra and cantaloupe on the side. Mmm mmm! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stick with these burgers. Which, by the way, are DEE-LISH-US!!!

You're right Ron, go for it. I love a big burger and fries myself and no diet pop for me either..lol

  • Jan Carter

    Ron,

Man I want a burger now and the peppers just help that meat taste soooo much better.    As for Dr. Pepper.  That is my game drink.  When the Gators are playin' I am drinking my pepper!

Dinner tonight was sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and the best apple butter I have ever had in my life!!

  • J.J. Smith III

Took the girls out to Texas Roadhouse today.  Had me one of these.

Had mine "Smothered" (Onions, mushrooms and brown gravy).  Fries and a salad, with iced tea to wash it all down.  Did me in for the rest of the day.

  • Jan Carter

Goodness does that look good.  I am making field peas and snaps with Rice,a Turkey breast and cornbread for dinner tonight.  I have cooked up the five spice chicken for my chicken ceasers this week.  Made Donnie Tuna salad for his lunches this week.

  • Jan Carter

  • J.J. Smith III

Popcorn committed suicide to avoid prison.  Hank williams Jr. is now one of the partners that distills and sells (Legally), Popcorn's moonshine recipe.

    Robert Burris

Okay JJ., I'll bite, what's a "wish sandwich"?

  • Jan Carter

you get bread and wish you had something to make a sandwich?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Oh, we call that a "Jam Sandwich". You just jam two pieces of bread together and eat.

  • Jan Carter

    Robert,

Hope things are well for you all there.  Stay safe my friend

Yes Mam, we are alright so for. I cooked a Hurricane super for everyone, "Squirrel and smoked sausage Gumbo". We have been lucky, we are on the good side of the storm, so for.

  • J.J. Smith III

Robert, Hope y'all are hunkered down real good.

    Be safe.

    Robert Burris

We are fine, and my property is fine. I don't know about my camp, though. I pray it's okay too. I feel so bad for those that took on the worst part of the storm. To loose everything you own, must be terrible.

  • Ron Cooper

Glad to hear that y'all are okay, Rob! Hopefully your camp will be fine, too.

  • J.J. Smith III

"Things"  can be replaced, Robert.  Thankful that you're all ok.

  • Jan Carter

That gumbo sure sounds pretty good Robert.  I made some chicken fingers tonight, we found some very good looking corn on the cob.  MMMMM Good

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Mmmmm, I love corn on the cob. I've cooked a catfish stew, tonight, with potatoe salad.

Good news, Alligator season opened Sept. 1st. bad news, once again this year, my medical problems, kept me from getting tags. My oldest grand daughters birthday is 9-11 and we have fried alligator and sac au lait every year since she was small. I have some friends that I'll get some choice meat for her birthday. Party Time!

I have added on to the cottage, I hope to post a picture of the progress. This is for those that have kept up with my building a place for my grand childern.

  • Jan Carter

Cant wait to see the cabin transformed Robert.  I know the girls are happy :)

Sorry about the tag but I am glad you will still have alligator for her

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Well, lucky enough, I got help and here's a picture of the progress, so far. It's gonna cost a pretty penny but it will make the "Cottage" complete. I love them little girls...lol

  • Billy Oneale

    It looks good, Robert.

  • J.J. Smith III

Looks like it's coming along nicely, Robert.

    Robert Burris

    Thanks guys.

  • Ron Cooper

How appropriate that you're using pink wood for the girls room addition! lol.

It looks like it's coming right-along. Good show, Rob!

  • Jan Carter

It is indeed coming along well Robert.  I know the girls are excited about getting a bathroom.  By the way, that is a nice size bathroom!

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Thanks, it is kinda big for a bathroom but it will also serve for alot more storage. They need more room for clothes and everything else you can think of. That is kinda neat, pink 2X4's for the girls. lol

I always fry fish and alligator for my oldest grand daughters birthday, since she was a very young girl. I have had so many things going on with medical problems and a small addition on the girls, cottage, that I have not had time to line up my gator meat for the fry. I ussally get filet tail meat, thats been tenderized. Well, the best I could do was some young gator legs. I deboned them and did the best I could to tenderize them. The picture shows my hard work. Oh well, poor Paw Paw, you gotta do what you gotta do. lol

  • J.J. Smith III

Tail, legs, whatever.  I'm sure that "PawPaw" is going to please his grand daughter.

  • Jan Carter

    Bet they come out GREAT!

  • Ron Cooper

Hey! I'm just a city slicker, and I ain't never tasted alligator before. So, please, will someone offer to tell me what it tastes like?

    Wait!!!

Let me guess. I bet it tastes like chicken -- Right? And, from what Rob wrote, I will venture to guess that the tail meat is the best -- Yes, no?

    Help a city boy out!

p.s. ~ and, Rob, I'm sure the girls will be delighted with whatever you give them cuz they'll know you put a lot of love into it. Like they say, "it's the thought that counts!"

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Well Ron, it taste like a critter that just ate a chicken..lol Yes the tail meat is the best in my opinion, if you are frying it. The tail meat is a white meat and the legs are dark meat and a little more gammy. I fried it last night and everyone said they enjoyed it but they much rather the tail meat. So do I. The girls loved everything I had. I cooked some fried shirmp, some Sac au Lait, Hush puppies and potatoes, also. Everyone, enjoyed the fry.

  • Jan Carter

fried Donnie up some shrimp tonight, he is happy :)

  • Ron Cooper

"A critter that just ate a chicken."

That's great! I love that description! Thank you, Robert! I'm gonna use that if anyone ever asks me what Mr. Al E. Gator tastes like. And, see! I told ya that the girls would love it.

Happy Sunday, everyone -- what's left of it.

  • Ron Cooper

A friend sent me a YouTube video this evening that I just had to share. What guy or gal wouldn't have fun at the family picnic with one of these...

I went back to HABIT last night for a fundraiser to support one of our local all girl High Schools, Alverno. 20% of the money that the restaurant made between the hours of 4pm and 10pm went to the school.

Here is what I had (see pic below)...

One word adequately describes my meal ~ DEEEEEEEELICIOUS!!!!!

Here is a link to the story as it appeared in Sierra Madre Patch...
