If you're out in the woods all you have to do is grab them by the tail, swing them around and pop their heads off.

What if they are coiled up and their head is near their tail?  That is still closer than I want to get to a copperhead or rattler!  LOL

  • Stephen L. Corley

Charles, you have to have quick reflexes. lol

  • Featured

    Charles Sample

My 68 year old reflexes just aren't that quick!  LOL

  • Stephen L. Corley

68 is still a spring chicken.

A spring chicken or an autumn duck.  LOL

This note just glances by outdoor living, but Charles mentioned guns and snakes of all kinds.  Happy to mention that all of the states I will be traveling through to get to the W.R. Case event in Norris, TN, and Charlotte, NC afterwards, have reciprocal concealed carry permits with PA, except for a little strip of MD that I will pass through.

  • David Selph

Pretty special moon last night.  Hope everyone got to see it.

  • Ken Spielvogel

David, great pic, it was pouring rain here last night and we saw no moon.

Picked a few goodies from the garden this evening. Lots more coming on, just don't have many ripe tomatoes yet.Waiting on the Jalapenos too.

  • Stanley May

You're making me hungry Jeremy.  Great pic

  • Jan Carter

LOL, Marc!  Does your insurance company know you light fires in your store?

    Good video buddy!

I know the persimmons have served you well. seen any caterpillars?

The darker the woolly caterpillar’s coat, the more severe the winter will be. If there is a dark stripe at the head and one at the end, the winter will be severe at the beginning, become mild, and then get worse just before spring.

Anyone else tell weather from the signs in their area?

  • Jan Carter

I think I am going to reread the foxfire books

  • Ken Spielvogel

Great set of books, I have enjoyed them in the past.

  • Jan Carter

We got them out last night and I am starting with #1.  Donnie is going with #4&5.  These are the two showing blacksmithing and knife making

Thanks, Jan.  Maybe we can stop thinking about Zombies for a while [Zombie Killer knives].  ISIS seems to be the current Zombie squad we need to worry about, so a machete might be just what we need.

Thanks, Jan.  Nice low impact cooking fire.

Thanks Jan.  Dave does a great job describing the stove.   Really useful information

I just got home from our camp out last night. Had a great time with the boys. For those of you who don't know, I just started teaching a boys club at church on Wednesday nights (the Royal Rangers). I wanted to get a camp out in before it gets too cold. We were on the verge of being too cold last night, but we survived. Here are a few pics from last night and this morning. Did I mention, we had a pig and two goats to keep us company all night? LOL

  • Jan Carter

Well the boys and the pig appear to be having a great time.  I think the goats are confused LOL.  Jeremy, this is such a cool thing you are doing with these boys!

  • Billy Oneale

Great ministry Jeremy. I was a leader for about 7years in the early 90's. My two sons earned their GMA's. I had aa lot of fun with the kids.

I'm heading back to my camp today for a few days. I'll be making my first deer hunt and plan on doing some work on my camp. The outdoors are so nice and pretty this time of year. Ya'll get outside if possible.

  • Howard P Reynolds

    Nice fire, Steve.

What type of fuel did you use? That is a great way to say fire wood.

I just bought a new wood burning stove for my camp. I can't wait to get it put in. Cold weather is coming.

Ah, wood stoves bring back memories to me.  For the first 18 years of my life until I went off to college, we heated our farmhouse with wood stoves.  For the first dozen years of my life we even cooked on a wood cook stove.  I cut and split and carried many a load of wood.

  • Howard P Reynolds

    Steve,

I think I saw a video using this method where the guy put his pan atop the split log - no stove or fire rack needed.

    Robert Burris

Yep Charles, a wood burning stove brings back memories for me also. One of my favorite memories is pot roasting some Woodcock on one with my old Paw Paw. My grand daughter and her boy friend helped me bring it out to the camp today. We'll install it in the next few days.

    Robert Burris

Thanks Steve, I might try it on my next camping trip. There's a cold snap coming.

We are heading back to our camp today, to get a little work done and go hunting. I have a special supper planned for my grand daughter and her boy friend. I'm going to grill some deer and beef steaks. Paul is still using and enjoying the Benchmade knife I won, on IKC, and gave to him last year. He really brags on that knife. I hope he gets to use it cleaning a deer or wild hog. It's the best knife he has ever owned.

  • Jan Carter

    Robert,

I am sure glad he is enjoying that knife!  Please let us know if he gets to clean anything with it on this trip?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

No, he didn't get to clean any wild animals with it but he did prepare some wild pork for a stew with it. Two deer and four wild hogs were killed but some other hunters cleaned the game. I came close to getting a shot at a nice buck but before I could get a shot off, he slipped away. If I kill something, he will for sure get to use it. He is really proud of that Benchmade knife.

I wonder how many people will be getting a hunting/outdoorsman knife this Christmas? I always enjoyed a new knife as a Christmas present. No matter how many I have there's always room for one more. Maybe a new one in a new type of steel or made of a handle material, that you love. What kind would you like for Christmas?

    Food for the Beast!

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

    Wow, that is neat.

  • Ron Cooper

    Steve,

What a coincidence! I had never heard of, or seen, one of those until just last night when I was watching an episode of "Buying Alaska."

The house that a couple was thinking of buying had one of those "Beasts." It turned out to be one of the deal breakers because the husband realized how much work it would be...cutting the wood, stacking the wood, and "feeding the beast."

I don't envy you, but I sure as heck salute you for providing warmth for your family. "You're a good man, Charlie Brown!"

  • Jan Carter

The beast is legend in our chat room.  Ron, your right it is alot of work there!
