My last dog was a 200lb. retired German Shepard from a police department.

He was named Lobo and really liked the taste of dog food and criminals LOL.

Have not had a dog since, and probably wont get one.

He was one of a kind.

The only other dog I ever had was a coon dog. She was very good at what she did and did it quickly.

Never gave her a name. Just called her "DOG"

    Robert,

Most Days Inn and LaQuinta's are pet friendly.  There is usually a per day pet fee but it is worth it. LOL

I move in a house sitter while we are gone.  Watches the house and takes care of the bird becuase he doesnt travel as well as the dog (Case does not like sharing the back seat with the bird)

Our little male Dachshund got bit by a copper head snake today. We rushed him to the Vets office and he got 3 shots. The swelling has gone down and he seems to be doing fine now. I have had a bunch of my dogs, over the years, bitten by Copperheads and Cotton Mouths and I have saved them all. The trick is quick medical attention. I use to keep the medicine in my refrigerator, for snake bites. I don't anymore, I just rush them to the Vets office.

    Craig Henry

Sorry to hear that Robert. I'd freak out if Sophie was bit by a snake! I hope he gets better!

  • Jan Carter

OMG!  Robert, good work on getting the little fella quick attention!  Please keep us informed about how he is doing and I hope you got that snake!

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Well, the story continues. After my grand daughter had taken care of him and the took a little nap together, to give the medicine a chance to work, I let him out for a chance to do his business. Well, he put his nose to the wind and took off toward the small bayou in front our place. He started baying something in the brush, along the bayou. I ran over there to find out it was a Border Colie that was hit by a car. Right now, we searching for the dogs owner. What a day. I just told my Mom, it's dog day.

Well my little dog, Oscar, is doing fine. I don't regret the $45 Vet bill, to make sure my little buddy is okay. I have heard of some people, letting their dog ruff it out after a snake bite. They just don't want to spend the money. They shouldn't own a dog if they fell that way. A snake bite is serious and very painful. Oh well, my little buddy is doing fine. Oh, and the other dog that showed up yesterday, is a lot better today and we found the owners. They were glad to find him.

  • Bill Fletcher

Rob, glad to hear that Oscar made it through ok!

I'm REALLY glad he's okay now!

Sometimes I think Cass and I spend more on our dog than ourselves, at the doctor or whatever......no, I KNOW we do! LOL!

  • Jan Carter

Good to know they are both doing better Robert!  Snake bite is a bit rough to ask a little guy like that to tough it out through

While I travel this weekend Donnie will be staying home with Case.  My first knife show with neither one of them with me

Well, the horrible unthinkable happened. Sophie was bit by a Copperhead. She's doing fine now.

It was a couple of nights ago. we always take Sophie out in the backyard on a leash just so she won't get into the bushes and stuff. I always have a flashlight on to see what's around even with the deck light on, TO LOOK FOR SNAKES! I'm a worthless idiot. I didn't have my flashlight on. I must have walked right by it and when I turned to look at Sophie I saw her jump and I saw the small Copperhead retracting it's head. It felt like my heart stopped.

I grabbed her up and we flew to the after hours Vet. The Vet said it looked like it got her on the snout just below her eye. The Vet thinks it might have been more of a glancing blow and didn't get much venom in. Sophie has reflexes like a Cat, so I thik she jumped and pulled back before it was a bad bite.

I thought I was going to die. I hate myself. It was all my fault! Why didn't I have my flashlight out and watch better? I let my guard down! Poor Sophie, I'm so sorry.

  • Ron Cooper

Even though I no longer own a dog. I am a dog lover and I was born in the Year of the Dog in the Chinese calendar.

I joined just to comment on Craig and Sophie's recent misfortune. While I am saddened to read of Sophie's encounter with Mr. No Shoulders, I am at the same time happy to hear that she is going to be okay. Living at the base of the mountains like I do, I have had several friends lose their dogs to rattlesnake bites. Nasty critters, snakes. They have always given me the heebie jeebies. And I just don't like 'em! Like 'em even less now that one of 'em sunk their venomous fangs into Sophie!

And, Craig. Give yourself a break, my friend. Thankfully she's going to be okay and I can assure you that she's already forgiven you AND the snake.

How's Cass doing? She's been in my thoughts and prayers this past week. Having undergone a spinal fusion a short while back, I know that back surgery can be pretty painful. So, I hope she's doing well and getting lots of rest.

Bottom line: I just wanted to check in and tell you to hang in there, my broster. The rain will stop soon. I guarantee it!

  • Bill Fletcher

Craig sounds like Ron has some sage advice.  I'm glad Sophie will be fine.

  • Jan Carter

OMG Craig!  My heart stopped just reading it.  I am so happy the princess will be fine.  I know she has forgiven the mishap and I also know the flashlight will always be there now.  Hope Cass is doing well also

    Craig Henry

Thanks guys. I'm still felling down after the whole thing. First Cass with her back surgery then this.

First few days she was in some pretty bad pain, but Cass is doing much better today. She's been shuffling around, but still needs to get bed rest after a short time. But it's progressing fine. Each day is better. She also feels bad because she can't pick Sophie up yet.....she can't lift anything more than about 8-10 pounds for a while and Sophie is 11 pounds.

Sooo, we're keeping the faith.....because without that what else is there?

Craig, my dog Oscar, got bit by another snake last week. Well another trip to the Vet's and another $50, he's doing fine now. That's twice this summer, at $50 a pop, or should I say "Bite". Well, we love him, no problem. Darn snakes.

Sorry to hear that Robert! Glad he's doing fine now! Yeah, same with us, we won't spare the expense for Sophie.....we'd do without something else first.
