I forgot about the carabiner. Usually, the carabiner stays with my shorts' belt loop and I just clip my paracorded knife into it. When using, I would unravel the paracord and slip my hand through it so I don't lose it in murky waters. The carabiner attached to paracord and knife adds to its weight, and gets in the way when you move the knife around.
Lol not to sound too repetitive, but "what Mig said"! Lol
As a grocery clerk we always kept our box cutters attached to a belt loop with twine, kept ya from leaving/losing it somewhere!
SWIM TRUNKS!?!?!? Where did you carry your old knife....?......wait, dont answer that. Ok now your relegated to attaching the knife to your hip with 4" deck screws. Unless you want to neck lanyard one of the tiny H1 spydies...any ideas Mig?
You can clip a carabiner to the string that tightens your trunks or make a hole, if your swim trunks don't come with a key loop, usually near a small inside pocket. Be creative. There's also grommets you use in tarps. Or make a belt of a paracord. Lots of ways. To make it bouyant, connect a small air bladder, like the famous rubber ducky... ;)
If you check the Salt I in the previous photo, that Goldenrod-colored P-TRRS paracord has the 3M reflector stripe (when you shine a light on it).
Chris, you should have written "what Chris said!" :)
At work, my Hawkhook and Wharcom were just clipped on my belt with a pencil-sized Streamlight. I never had them on a carabiner because both clips were tightly matched to my belt. Lucky for me, none of them ever fell off. On water though, they should be tethered (clip it or lose it!)
Chris - my trunks usually had pockets and if not in the waist band.
Mig - that helps a lot thank you... Now the objective is to acquire enough money to do this. This is proof that the economy sucks... I'm
An assistant manager and I'm only making minimum wage. So yeah. Thank you though for all the advice it's been a massive help.
So I don't know if you guys know this but knives are freaking addicting. After collecting cold steel, kershaw, and gerber for a long time I was getting kinda bored with It but I just received my first spyderco knife the tenacious and I am so readdicted
Oh yeah, Nate, your Tenacious has 3 mean brothers, all scary sharp - Ambitious, Persistence, Resilience. Not to mention the Delicas, which I think come in more than 10 variations (grind, color, steel)... Yup, there should be a contest for the thinnest wallet somewhere here in iknifecollector!!
Wait til you hold some of the Benchmades... Then the CRKTs... And that's only some of the production knives! And then the customs! Before you know it, you'll be needing another cold shower!!
I have a few crkt and they are alright but the only problem
With benchmade is there so expensive. They dont have any good entry level knives like under $50. I just compare it to cold steel and if I could get a better deal so
My cheapest premium Benchmade was a Mini-Griptilian in 154CM for $58, and this is a bargain. Under $50 would usually be 3 inch blades with medium steel (AUS8, 9Cr13, 440C).
Since you mentioned hawkbill before, what about the Boker Batman ($36)
See that sounds reasonable to me price wise and I would get into benchmades more if they were a little cheaper but hey whatever. As for hawbill I would love one but the are illegal in the state of Tennessee as well as any knife over 4in. I know I'm pushing it carrying a 5in cold steel voyager but I know some of the cops and they aren't very tolerant to hawkbills
Hi Nate I think under 50 USD there are some HK Heckler & Koch By Benchmade (Mini Ascender,SNODY, Mini-Pika II, Monochrome and i my memory serves me under 50 USD means it is non US made production.
Hi Nate & Patrik, here's another Benchmade - VEX. It's discontinued but still available. Has a 3.3" 8Cr13MoV BP Ti-coated blade, a solid feel due to its steel liners and G-10 handle. Closer feel to your Tenacious, Nate. Here's an eBay search link too.
Thanks Mig those VEX knifes look nice and as the box is some kind like orange colored I think it is the red line production so it is made in China and for 56$ seems a little bit pricey. BTW if you are looking for a similar edc I have won on ebay and Kershaw OSO SWEET (27$ with international shipping) also made in china and it is ASSISTED yes and also the Spyderco Persistence would be a very nice option
Yeah, Patrik, it seems we have similar likes. I already have the Oso Sweet and the Persistence, and Ka-Bars, all very sweet tools. The 8Cr14MoV steel comes from China, which should have brought the Vex's price down (US$60 msrp) to at least $40. Maybe it's the demand? Did you know there's also a red Oso Sweet, for Snap Tools? It's also nice that companies like Benchmade mention a knife's country of origin.
Seems like we all have similar likes I have the oso sweet black as well and absolutely love this knife. Sadly it's been misplaced but soon to be replaced. I have a few kabars as well and I love these knives the persistence is next on my list
Oso Sweet for snap Tool ? I don't know about it maybe you can post some link or picture. And tor my Oso Sweet it features 8CR13Mov steel and i will come in a plastic display package I saw a version in a box that featured a AUS 6A steel but it was around 10-12 USD more. My understanding is that 8CR13Mov is a china made steel wit similar tributes than AUS8A US made steel and in some reviews the AUS 6A with bad or not sufficient heat treating is inferior to AUS 8A and 8CR13Mov therefor I picked up the 8CR13Mov. Maybe you have more information to this statement. And to the price of the benchmade who knows maybe it ist the brand name or higher quality control sure it is not he material cost :) but as I'm a fan of US made AUS 8A Steel I recommend the Ontario RAT-1 and it is made in TAIWAN and we know TAIWAN made knifes a more reliable and the quality is also higher thank CHINA made Knifes. And one more point that speaks for he Ontario RAT-1 $26.95 + shipping (ebay) you just cant beat the price and steel just cant. Yes and I also like Ka-bar hell I like all knifes :)
Patrik
Honestly I own the RAT1 folder and I absolutely love it and I agree that taiwan made blades are great quality, 90% of cold steel knives are made there and they have yet to fail on me. Now I've always been ify on china blades and especially 8cr13mov but so far this tenacious has been one hell of a knife so we will see. Kershaw is coming out with a few imports this year and I'm still kinda skeptical of them but hey I'm spyderco fan thru and thru now to go buy more lol
Yes Nate I think it is all about quality control also the steel is important but even a 440 steel can perform great if it is properly heat treated an properly sharpen an I agree with you I also love spyderco and cold steel I try to maintain 1:1 ratio in my EDC and since I don't own the tenacious I can't comment on that particular knife but since I have the para military on my wish list but that is to expensive right now for me I would go with the Resilience has some nice specks.
Ok Nate as I don't have a fire arm permit so i cant carry a pistol with me therefor there is just one option for me and since I also collect knifes I like to carry more then one knife. Usually 1 tactical large 1 utility medium (assisted) and 1 small automatic in my jacket. If I count my back pack them + 2 one swiss victorinox and one small multi tool in my EDC pouch. And for the pollice office question here in Slovakia we dont have any legislative restrictions regarding knifes just dont display them in the public because than you can be charged wit endangering. I did not come across a case that a police office asked you on the street to empty you pockets and I always stay out of trouble and mind my own business. But to answer your question I don't know what my answer would be maybe something like ,,Oh look office a UFO and when he turns around a wold trow the knife away,,
I emailed Kershaw some time ago regarding this unusual version.

Here in California, state law frowns on folding knives more than 3-inches, should be hidden, but any blade style including karambits. Fixed blades should be sheathed and fully exposed, no size limit (maybe sabers and katanas are fine :) ?) Automatics, butterfly, double edged daggers and such strictly banned countrywide unless law enforcement or military. Knives come in so many styles, sizes and uses that to get just one of each might mean more than 300 knives. So you guys got me salivating again for that next sharp edge...
Nate, here's a good deal on a Spyderco Atlantic Salt (an even $50). Compared to the Pacific Salt, it's only 1/8" shorter. But it has a sheepfoot blade, which is less aggressive looking and much safer on kids' toes.
Oh that Atlantic Salt looks NICE since we don't have any salt water here in Slovakia this model is not on my wish list but it is a very beautiful knife.
Either way, Nate, good choice! Someone mentioned that H-1 scratches easily. You could try Flitz polisher to buff it. Have fun in the water!
Patrik, you mentioned the pricey Para-Military? Spyderco has another CPM-S30V in the Native ($61 at Amazon). Slightly thinner blade at 1/8", instead of 5/32". Hollow-grind, not Flat-grind. Lockback, not Compression lock. Tip-up, not tip-down carry. It could quench your thirst... temporarily at least.
Hahaha Patrik, i almost spit my coffee this morning reading that "look officer a ufo and trow the knife away". So classic! A lot of people frown on the older blade steels, by that i mean the 440's which were common place when i was younger. We didnt have the s30v or 154cm etc. One thing i will always say is that the lighter/cheaper steels 420, 440a, 440c, might not be as durable or hold an edge for long, but the average inexperienced knife user/sharpener can put a razor edge back on them without expensive tools.
I have run my tenacious for awhile now and it seems to be holding up fine! Will keep ya posted. I dropped my spyderco milli the other day, it stuck tip down into linoleum covered concrete without the slightest tip deviation "whew".
Canadian laws are the same, limited to 4" folded, no switch, spring or gravity knives, but fixed exposed as long as its sheathed. I carry a left pocket tarani master karambit, and a right (lately) either millie, A100, ak-47 or in the yard my trusty kabar k2 warthog. If an officer asks, i will try the ufo, if not then will have to ask why he carries weak side weapons.
Hi Mig. Yes the Native is one piece of a nice made knife but i would rather go wit the Caly 3 is just my personal preference I like the caly's leaf shape blade more :-)
Hi Chris sorry for the coffee. I agrre with you. 420 and 440 is a light to sharpen steep type but has the disadvantage that has a low edge holding since i have a loot cheap knifes with this type of steel. Here arrounda loot of people buy knifes mainly for display purpouses so they dond care about the steel type and I agree that for the main EDC knife AUS 8A, VG10 or if you are willing to pay more CPM SP30 or 154cm.
I agree with you, Patrik. The Caly 3 has nice clean lines and curves. Plus the flat-ground leaf blade, my favorite style, and G-10. Although twice the Native's price at ~$133, the Caly 3 is still definitely preferable. Thanks for the reminder!
Like you, I was also thinking of the Resilience. The 4 1/4" 8Cr13MoV Leaf shaped flat ground blade is big. The 5 1/4" G-10 handles have stainless liners, and 4-way carry. It should feel solid in the hand. At $48, it's reasonable. I really enjoy the Tenacious and the Persistence, so the same styled Resilience should be just fine. Spyderco did a good thing with this Value line. At least more people can afford and appreciate them. Plus they're much better than the Byrd line, imho.
Mig, what to say just that I completely agree wit you the value line from spyiderco is a big score and wit a nice pricing. To address the bird line I'm not impressed wit those knifes I own now for over 4 years the bird cara cara it is a OK knife with a big blade but the opening of the knife just is not what I prefer. The Resilience would be in my opinion since I don't own that knife at the moment much better than the bird cara cara. FFG is a much better blade grind.
In cooperation with industry leaders, the American Knife and Tool Institute (AKTI) approved updated standard knife definitions to use for legislation and law enforcement purposes. Visit http://www.akti.org/resources and click on the red "AKTI Approved Knife Definitions" link to see official, legal definitions for such edged tools as an "Arkansas Toothpick," "Bowie Knife," "Dagger," "Ballistic Knife" and many more.
Patrik, the Resilience (like the Tenacious) has phosphor bronze bushings. I guess that's why the Value line has a smoother opening/closing compared to the Byrd line. Could also be the eye-shaped thumbhole that just feels a little weird. But they're cheap, disposable and screwable enough to use on grimy stuff or chemicals.
Chris, I always wished I had the Millie or the Para. What's held me back were the right-side tip-down carry (ambidextrous preference) and the high price (so many others to select from in that price range). Other choices had titanium liners, or Axis-lock or Arc-lock. I ended up with the Spyderco Barong, and that quenched it for me. Yeah, full flat grind is the best. That's the only grind that cut my finger (by a cheap Tenacious)... :)
Indeed personal preference must play a role, if not we would all EDC the same blade :). I still wouldnt have a millie if not for the excellent deal i got on mine!
Patrik, I also wanted the Kukri although the blade angle was too steep for me. But the handle gave a good grip. Like the Millie and ParaM, the Barong locked your grip solidly. I would still go for the Caly 3.5 as my next premium knife. I'm perfectly contented with Spyderco's VG-10.
Chris, if I had found a better price than what was available then, I could have been tempted. But the moment I saw the Barong, it was LAFS! I guess that's "luv at 1st sigh-t".
Here are the 2 I carry most allways... now on Sunday I will pull out a looker or 2, but most of the time it's these 2. Being an electrician the lenox gets worked the hardest, love the new gold blades.

Thanks, Chris!
