$3 on eBay (shipping included) on eBay and antoher $3 for the can of Ronson butane! Very pleased and very sharp. Scissor are really sharp and have a great spring to them.
Current production LC-14 B Woodman's Pal with a new sheath, Also pictured is a Winchester Upswept Skinner. which shares the Pal's new sheath.
While i have the original Pal's sheath stored, this sheath began as a $5 knock-off sheath sold by SMKW. The sheath itself isn't bad for $5 but is much lighter weight than the original nylon sheath sold with the. Pal.
I've covered the sheath with some Tiger Stripe material. Next a sheath for skinner's blade was sewn to the front this sheath. The Winchester knife came with a plastic insert for its nylon sheath so it was real easy to fashion the skniner's sheath. I then made a pocket that covers the skinner sheath. It is big enough for a compass, iPhone or small fisrt-aid/survival kit.
Finally I sewed a "Don't Tread On Me" patch to the pocket.
I'm considering replacing the velcro closure of the main sheath with a zipper. I'm also probably going to add a few d-rings to aid in strapping the sheath down.
I removed the plastic handles to the skinner and replaced them with 550 cord. the retaining strap from the old sheath was also moved to the new sheath. I've actually used the Woodman's pal to clear limbs and bushes around the house. The 1075 carbon steel blade, worked beautifully. A little coon-p brought back its original finish.
Both knives in their stowed position. The patch is a little crooked, primarily because I insisted on lining of the camo pattern of the pocket to the rest of the sheath. It was a bear hand-sewing the pocket to the sheath.
It may appear that the sheath is too short, but in fact it is the same dimensions as the original sheath sold by Woodman's Pal.
Seems to me the lighter weight with velcro would better for practical use. What began as a 5$ knock off is now a custom, sheath. I am impressed with the thought process of putting the pocket big enough to carry necessary items. When you go out in the woods or swamps pockets are essential, you never have enough. GOOD WORK!
The lighter weight is a little more practical but the heavier Nylon will last longer. However, the poly-cotton cloth covering the nylon sheath acts a second skin and will extend the life of this sheath. I'm happy with the added knife and pocket. Really makes the sheath more functional.
would like to take the time to say yahoo up to 54 menbers, would like to wished everyone happy thanksgivin be safe i love this group i never believed it would hit 54 menbers thank yall,
My next project is a little more ambitious. I'm tired of waiting for a Rough Rider scout knife with white smooth bone handles so I'm swapping out the handles myself.
Now before anyone says anything, I know there is a right way and wrong way to do this. But as usual, I'm doing it the "man cave" way. (That is: improvise and adapt)
I'm sure this would probably be easier with things like a jewelers saw to cut bone, and maybe a vise to hold things steady. But I'm guessing I' can make do with junk lying around the basement. (at least that will be my first attempt! LOL)
I've already popped the handles off my older red bone scout. I bought a new one that I was going to use, but it had a different shield so I decided to experiment on the old one! My amber jigged scout also has the bow-tie shield
There you go! and it will be a customized piece to boot! I am willing to bet you do well with what you have on hand. May be a bit rougher cut but sandpaper and time can certainly take care of that. Let us see it as you move forward?
I have decided to start collecting a new pattern, the "Clasp" pattern. I was wondering if any of ya'll collect this pattern? I know of only a few brands that even make this pattern. Schrade, Case, Rough Rider, Winchester and Kabar. If there are any others ya'll can think of please let me know. Do ya'll even know anyone collecting this pattern? Please let me know what ya'll think.
Robert, are you talking about Toothpicks, or knives like the Case Bulldog? Or are you thinking about a broader range, like anything that can be termed a "Clasp Knife"?
Craig, Case calls it a Bulldog pattern but most everyone calls it a Clasp pattern. I am not sure which is correct. It's the very large folder with a single clip point blade. Some campers around here call it a folding butcher knife. It is very handy preparing food.
I think a lot of collectors use the term "Bulldog" as kinda of a generic name. At least they used to. A "Clasp Knife" it is! "Clasp Knife" can run to all kinds of various knives.....like one of the most famous; the Navaja.
Okay.I got it. Rough Rider and few others call it a Deer Slayer. I also like them but only have one so far. I wish they'd make it in some of the series knives. Would've made a great Moonshiner if the barrel was bigger. I could also see it in the coal miner or stoneworx series.
That white bone looks good! The only Bulldog/Deer Slayer/Clasp I ever had was a Case with pakka wood handles. Don't know why I never bought any others.
Despite the size, its a good solid build. The blade opens smoothly, Nice walk and talk, It stays open with little or no play. Razor sharp and very comfortable to hold. It would make a nice back pocket carry.
Yea guys, that's the pattern I'm talking about. I don't know why there's so many different names for it. There is only a few brands that make it but they all seem real nice. I like the ones I have, I don't understand why more collectors don't have them.
I'm going to go on a limb and say the reason not too many people collect them is the size. They are enormous and take up a lot of space. They are also a real pocket full!
Tobias, that is a very interesting aspect, "size". The tactical knives have been on a larger trend for at least a few years. I find it very funny that the traditional collector has not followed suit. You may note the popularity of a good many models, made by some of the top Tactical knife brands. I think, we should get the opinion of some of our Tactical knife collector members and see what they have to say. I will try and do a little research on this, anyone that wants to join in this discussion, with more info, please do.
Here is a couple of my Clasp knives. I really like them and may start collecting and useing them. I really don't see why more collectors don't collect this pattern. I have seen them with fancy blades and handles, and a veriety of everything else. I just ordered a Rough Rider and a Schrade to add to my little collection of Clasp knives.
came by checked out now were at 58 members great ,,,but really im on to tell everone on box of knives group..HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and can't wait to see christmas gifts..thank's tom white
Craig, I love those Winchesters, that's the Cartridge series, you have there. I love them all and see more Clasp knives in my future. We got Moose pattern knife collecting off the ground, maybe we can get this wonderful pattern going. I would have bet, that there would have had alot more collectors, interested in them. Oh well, before the price goes up.lol
I love that stag Case! I really like Winchester's Cartridge series. I wasn't thinking about them before, but I see a Clasp knife in my future now....all because of you Robert! LOL!
Indeed! I have always liked the way they looked, but they are usually priced well above my current pay grade. Especially some of those older Case Bulldogs!
