Ron I agree with you...however the war is on and the President refuses to join.
Jan, the first thing that jumps out at me is, if it looks just like a real handgun, it would be a good way to get yourself shot by a real handgun.
I personally don't think it would be very effective in most instances. So many criminals today are hopped up on drugs and if they have already spent time in prison are probably buffed up from working out all the time. Rodney King was a good example. A tazor didn't effect him. He just laughed at the cops when they tazored him. And when four of them tried to hold him down, he just threw all four of them off like they were rag dolls.
In my personal and professional opinion, don't sell your 1911! It is a gun which shoots a beanbag round which have been out there for over 20 years. Departments now have less than lethal weapons much like this one.
A LEO responds to a call of a dirtbag with a machete.
"O-God he has a big knife!" "Twenty-five send backup. Suspect is armed with a machete type weapon and is threatening people in the mall as well as me."
Now going through the mind of the officer who is equiped with sidearm, Tazer, two barrel bean-bag pistol, pepper spray and collapsible baton, "What should I do." Well it is too late as the dirtbag just cut your head off rookie!
It is much easier if you have your sidearm. "Dirtbag waving a machete at me and others at this mall." "Hummmm!" KA-POOP! KA-POP! KA-POP!!! "Twenty-five...send the meat wagon." Problem solved.
Clint, you are correct. The best way for the police to defuse a problem is to bring overwhelming force to the situation. In most instances this can be done in sheer numbers and/or without deadly force but in some instances the threat of deadly force or actual use of deadly force is the correct response.
For instance in the situation of man with a machete:
1) are potential victims nearby?
Y: Use deadly forces
N: call for back up and threaten the use of deadly force
2) potential victims are not near but man with machete refuse the police demand to disarm. Is the situation stable or is getting worse? Is back up on the way? Will potential victim be availble soon?
These are just some of the potential scenarios that the police officer must weigh while determining his next move which will probably take place within seconds (or less) when arriving at the scene.
And if in the scenario it appears that the situation can potentially get worse, the police officer will most likely have to use deadly force -- not the action they wants to take but it will be the action they were trained to take and it will be the action that ultimately was done to safeguard lives.
Next up. have his patsies in big cities and certain states try to enforce such a ban and then start class action law suits against companies that knowingly make such ammo! Then move once more on his executive order!
The US Forest Service is reviewing target shooting in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests along Colorado’s Front Range. Citing “increased danger in a heavily populated area”, the Service created a Sport Shooting Management Partnership to look at target shooting over a landscape of 625 square miles. The Partnership is between the Forest service, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), and the four nearby counties of Larimer, Boulder, Clear Creek and Gilpin. The shooting sports organizations were not invited to participate in the Partnership and thus far, have not had input into the review and planning process.
But, on April 13th, a “virtual meeting” is scheduled to take public comment and questions and presents the first opportunity to engage in the process. Information about this meeting and how to participate can be found on the Partnership website at www.sportshootingpartners.org.
There is potential for the Forest Service to close hundreds of thousands of acres to dispersed recreational shooting, so it is extremely important for all those who target shoot on Federal lands along the Front Range to get engaged in the process starting with the April 13th meeting.

A Massachusetts gun seller says it’s the latest victim of a federal multiagency task force that is squeezing financing sources for industries deemed “high-risk” by the Obama administration, such as porn stores, drug paraphernalia shops and gun merchants.
Powderhorn Outfitters, which sells firearms, archery gear and fishing equipment in Hyannis, Massachusetts, posted in an online forum this week that its longtime bank — TD Bank — had suddenly dropped its account.
“TD Bank does not support the Second Amendment and has contacted us here at the Powderhorn to say that due to our involvement in firearms sales, we as a business are no longer welcome to have an account at their bank,” the sporting goods store posted on northeastshooters.com, an online forum for shooting enthusiasts in New England states. “They classify us in the same gray area as the local weed shops sprouting up on the Cape.”
Ron, Ms. Data told me last night that she had been looking at the Remington 870 and if it was a new one the answer would be yes. If it was before 209, maybe.
Awaiting a special order to arrive. A Mossberg Special Purpose .20 gauge. The only "tactical" home defense shotgun that holds 8+1 and honestly, the difference between .20 and .12 in a home defense shotgun is negligible. I'd rather have 9 blasts. It's in Muddy Girl camo which would not be my preference but I'll call it purple and I'll love it. Plus Cathy won't be afraid to shoot it.
Ron, don't blame me for your gun addiction, I was merely the enabler-LOL- However, If you JUST have to own one, the Remington 870 is a great choice- I sold the Remington 870 40 years ago, and have shot both skeet and trap with one- The 870 would not be around as long as it has, if it wasn't a great gun to begin with-- Happy shooting- I may have created a monster !! But disclaimer- I accept no blame for your ongoing gun mania !!
Ron, you will love your 870. Many years ago I had an 870 that I just loved. I don't even remember what I traded it for but I'm pretty sure I regret it. You can get all kinds of different barrels for it, slug barrels, 18-1/2" home defense barrels (I don't know how that works in Canada), it can be configured many ways, and they are great shotguns. Congratulations!
Ms Data -- For Canada we can have short barrels--even 12" ones and without a tax stamp--as long as they are manufactured that way and not semi auto but they can't be used for self defence. We have to fight with equal force so if the bad guy comes in with a knife all I can do is stab or bludgeon the SOB not shoot him. Also, the gun has to be locked up in a safe with ammo in a separate location.
BUT
The Remington 870 WAS a great gun prior to 1995 but had/has declined considerably prior to and after having being taken over by the Freedom Group etc. in 2005. Cerberus bought them for a song because the quality had declined and they would try to bolster the sales and manufacturing quality which they did, somewhat. The quality is still down (from what it once was) and Remington has had numerous recalls on their guns.
I hope that he gets a good one but he should be advised that there have been difficulties.
Thing is, Mossberg is no better. IMO it is by far the worst.
Only new pump that I'd consider is the Browning BPS or the Benelli Nova/Super Nova albeit not American made and more expensive and the Ithaca Model 37 for a US company of comparable price. There have been some Turkish guns being imported that are modeled after the 870 that are excellent.
Extra barrels are available for all the makes and models either from OEM or after market suppliers. Used barrels can be got from the likes of www.corsonsbarrels.com/ or www.barrelexchange.com/

The new regulations will also include ATF enlargements on mental health-based gun ownership bans. Hammond summed this up by saying, “The Obama administration is trying very hard to disqualify people from owning a gun on the basis that they are seeing a psychologist.” And the NRA pointed out that because most mentally ill persons pose no threat to society, the new regulations will actually become “snares [for] masses of mostly harmless individuals.”
The NRA added: “Not only is this unjust and stigmatizing, it creates disincentives for those who need mental health treatment to seek it, increasing whatever risks are associated with untreated mental illness.”
In other words, people who might actually need some minor mental health attention may refuse to pursue it for fear of losing their guns.
The ATF is also working on “rules that would require gun dealers to report gun thefts, provide gun storage and safety devices.”
In March the NRA warned that then Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch would be “Eric Holder 2.0.” Yet in April, ten Republican Senators sided with Democrats and confirmed Lynch as AG. The Hill reports that those Republicans included Sens. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) 42% Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) 49% Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) 40% and Sen. Well, with what I have now it would have to be my .30-06. Of course I would leave my 150 grain deer rounds behind and get some 220 grain solids. And since I have a good scope on my rifle, I would start shooting at a distance so I could pump several rounds into them before they got to me.
I should be ok with my ol' .54 blackpowder and a stout 5160 5/16 thick bushcraft blade, as I look back at one of my heros, Alley Oop, just faced them off with a wooden club!!
Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City , N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.
The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen andBrunswick counties..
The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.
"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation."
The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.
In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do as i say and not as i do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.
It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can.
Hi Jan, Unfortunately the story isn't 100% true according to Snopes. He actually had a mixed voting record on gun issues with the NRA giving him A and B rating numerouis times.
Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) and gun rights group said in response to this very article:
As much fun as it is to catch anti-gun politicians in their own hypocrisy, this is not such a case. In the interest of fair play and truth, GRNC is compelled to point out that while not excellent, is not a "virulent anti-Second Amendment activist" nor a "vociferous zealot." [T]he charges are simply not is mediocre at worst and has voted with us on most major issues."
