I am up for the info. If it is on the Internet then I would just like the links will be enough and for those who want to read can go there and for those who don't care can pass. Thanks Robert.....
Clint, I may have to wait for help on the link. My computer skills are low. I thought we would talk over what happened and see what people have to say about it. I liked Dave, as did alot of other people. This is a forum we have here and sometimes we can talk about adult subjects. Questions like, "Did they go too far with his dismissal"...."Did he betray everyones trust"... "We just don't care, we want Dave back"....and so on. I just want to hear peoples opinion.
As far as I'm concerned, Dave's credibility is now zero, and that makes everything he says suspect. Assuming the show's producers confirmed that he had indeed falsified his service record, firing him was the right thing to do. Serious survival shows are teaching their viewers how to survive in different wilderness conditions. This is serious stuff! Unfortunately, the stars of these shows aren't required by law to have any relevant qualifications, as far as I know. So the information they provide their viewers probably shouldn't be taken on its face value alone. If you want reliable survival information, you need to verify the credibility of the source.
@Terry I agree with firing him because he falsified his creds. It does not however mean he doesn't know his stuff; just that he lied about his qualifications. Just being in the military does not make you an expert in survival. Being an ex-sailor; I was trained in firefighting, damage control, and water survival, but that is all. I have not watched Dave, but I would bet that any competent actor could take his place as long as they were taught the technique and given the lines. Any doubts, watch Morgan Freeman on the Science Channel "Through the Wormhole."
We must remember that TV shows are made for our intertainment. We should learn survival from better places than a TV show. You may learn somethings from the show but not depend on it as your main sorce of information. I got a message from Cody and he confirmed that Dave has been replaced and for reasons of his credibility and that a survival instuctor must be trusted, for peoples lives depend on him/her. He did not say anything bad about Dave. I liked Dave and it's a real shame that he did that because when it boils down to it, his military record had nothing to do with his ability to teach survival tech.
Funny the things you think of as you prepare for tropical weather.
1) Even not getting ready for a direct hit, you face the possibility of days without electric and extreme humidity. Put our the damp rid buckets
2) Yes I have an icemaker and it needs to be emptied, cleaned and fresh ice in it for a water resource. Take the old ice, bag it and put it in the outside freezer with icecreams and such (also in baggies). Also freeze bottles of water in that freezer. Easier to clean one freezer than 2. Keeping one closed fulltime is good.
3) Get extra chlorine and shock in the pool. It is a resource for bathing if you keep it clean
There are "Survivalists" and there are "Preppers"..."Survivalists" usually get this bad rep, usually (but not always) incorrectly related to "Militia" groups where preppers just get themselves ready for upcoming emergencies like floods, ice storms but not necessarily like the end of the world and being infested by zombies.
The English version if often called Bushcraft like what Ray Mears TV shows are all about and during the 1960s and 1970s we were called "Back to the Landers" with The Mother Earth News being our official rag.
There are thousands of sites devoted to survival living and preparation--everything from dealers selling you freeze dried rations and MREs to how to survive in the woods eating plants and everything in between including the Red Cross.
Also lots of information can be garnered from places dealing with primitive or traditional archery, blackpowder shooting & mountain man sites as well as Paleo sites like for flint knapping to hunting with an atlatl.
I'm a prepper and a survivalist and I sell prepper supplies. Unfortunatly I don't live on a farm like Hog, though I use to. Preppers lay in some of the following supplies, not in any particular order, water, food, guns, knives, books and articles on survival, tools, trade goods, meds/first aid, heat and cooking, and anything else they think may be needed. I've written a short paper on food storage and use, and will make it available to anyone who would like to read it. There is no advertising, just the address of my web site.
I will be happy to share with anyone who wishes to read what I have written. I've written several papers; they are all short and easy to read. I'm not writting a college text so I try to keep it as condensed and to the point as I can.
You are right Steve, prepping knows no geographical or locational boundries.

The only country I have heard anything good about recently is Chile. Costa Rica is a beautiful country, but ex-pats can't work there. You can open and own a company, but you still can't work there even in your own company. You must hire locals to do the work.
I'm still looking for a couple of survuval knives and need suggestions, I've been thing about a Chris Reeves "Pacific" What do you think? anyone want to guide me in a different direction? By the way I;m in the northeast Texas Panhandle. Pretty much nothing around here some small towns but like I said 55 miles to the closest Wally World. I have most of the stuff except a water filtration system. I have 22 stuff but not mag. plus my ,45 and AR.
I know about where your talking about. The lifestraw is $20 each and can filter 280 gal. of water. You can drink the worst of waters and be ok. Small and compact. I also have the little hand pump with will filter out bacteria.
Take your egg cartons and fill the individual egg compartments with lint from the dryer. Then melt paraffin and pour in each compartment. Now you have an instant fire starter which can start a fire with sticks the size of wooden spoons...instead of the smaller match sticks.
Ok i have saved tons of dryer lint (well maybe ounces). Just have to get some parafin and use up the eggs so I'll have a carton. Just ordered a couple of lifestraws.
