The community is invited to come on down to the Diner & General Store. Take a chair on the porch and sit a spell. Visit with your neighbors and see what's going on in town.
Jan, try those greens with maple flavored bacon. My gal,who is a terrific campfire cook, bought some by mistake. Being all she had handy, she flavored the greens with them. WOW!! She made enough greens to feed an army, but 3 of us ate them all and were begging for more !! The best greens I have ever had, and I lived in Florida for 25 years !!
Let me know how you liked them,Jan- I know, darn near anything tastes better around a campfire, but I just can't get that wonderful meal out of my head, and that was a couple of years ago !!
Forgive my stupidity, J.J.-What exactly is in a Dixiecrat Sandwich ?? Sounds like you're filleting Southern politicians !! Not a bad idea, mind you, but they generally have too much fat and not enough substance to 'em- LOL My curoius mind would like to know !!
Actually, John, you're closer than you know.
Story is that in the presidential election of 1948, Strom Thurmond broke away from the Democrat party and formed the Dixiecrat party.
They were the 1948 equivilant to today's Tea Party, believing in states rights and preserving the southern way of life.
Supposedly, when Thurmond would campaign, his staff would pass around simple sandwiches made of a link breakfast sausage with mustard on white bread.
J.J- Sounds good and the name is appropriate. Lots of pork covered up by something else and wrapped in a blanket !! LOL- Is this a sandwich or a new bill proposal ?? LMAO
Not sure yet what we're having tonight. Something fast though. Got to get ready for a big tv night. NCIS at 8:00 and then the new Mini Series Klondike at 9:00.
Gained to much weight lately: so I have been cutting down - Cereal in the morning, soup for lunch, a slimfast shake for supper - and that's about all. Lost 4 lb since the Crusie.
Ron, I've been wanting to put up a recipe for a Cajun Gumbo but I'll have to measure everything I use, first. You see I have been doing it for so long I just throw everything together without measuring. The next one I cook I'll try measure.
The boys are swimming hard the last two weeks getting ready for a meet in St.Louis this weekend. I am having a hard time feeding them!! I asked them what they wanted for supper and my 9 year old Bryce, said dad I really want some meat!! I said how does pot roast sound? He said that will work!
Got home OK, used 4 wheel drive, roads drifting. I put a TM Salt Block on a shovel and pulled it back in the woods. 10-12" snow at the farm. Just 3 1/2 miles from the house. Good to be home - can't wait for the Chili.
It's supposed to sleet tonight and snow tomorrow. We are not use to this type weather here in south Louisiana. I am gonna cook a shrimp and Andouille Gumbo for supper. It will help keep us warm.
