I have a Ontario RAT3. I like it very much. Next I think I will get a Izula. I wish they would bring back the Laser strike.
  • Brad Hyde

Antti, I have heard that before about Rowen making knives for TOPS, but I have never been able to confirm it. I do know that they are two different companies which still does not mean that Rowen doesn't make a few knives for TOPS. What I heard was that Rowen made a few of the TOPS knives that use 1095 High Carbon steel. Rowen is known for it's awesome heat treating of their 1095 blades....something about the process they use for heat treating makes them superior to other makers that are using 1095.
  • lg&m

Yes full tang is the best. Question to all what blade length do you prefer? I think 4 - 5-1/2" is best for overall usefulness.

This knife has been made for several months, it took over 300 hours. The material of the knife was forged by Filip Horvath, and it is damast sandwich. It is a cone knife. I carved an angel wriring on a parchment onto the blade, which is decorated with 14-carat gold. The handle was made of water-buffalo horn, wich is fixed by 6 silver pins and it is decorated with negative scrimshaw, showing the moon appearing from behind the clouds. The knife has been named after its representation : THE FATE . The whole lenght of the knife is cca 225 mm, lenght of the handle :70 mm. • Ricky Colbrook

I just noticed this section of the site. I kinda love fixed blades!!(LOL) Looking forward to plenty of pics and discussions!!
  • Paul J Granger

I figured I better join. Of the knives I've made the ratio is 181 fixed blades to 1 folder. I have a few pics of them on my page, if you'd like a look.

    Best wishes,
    Paul

I think I will get a new Mora. who else likes the cool little Mora's?
  • Andy Voelkle "AxeMan"

Moras are fine knives, always likes mine. Paul has me beat, my ratio is more like 40:1 but I carry an axe in the inside pocket of my dinner jacket. The Hudson Bay head of the Norlund Voyageur is a little wide, but the Vaughn Sounding Axe is razor sharp and perfect -- as you know, an axe is a medium weight fixed blade knife on a perpendicular handle.
  • Jackie Cribbs

I AM NEW TO THIS, SO BEAR WITH ME.
  • lg&m

Delete Comment Jackie , we will bear, er bearing, whatever. Nice to have you. I think my ratio is about 50/50. I have been feeling the fixed blade love more lately.
  • Jim Johnson

Why does the fixed blade club have three folders for i ts AVATAR ?

    Jim Johnson
  • lg&m

I got my Mora Miki today. Looking forward to using it soon.
The folders are in Nick Hanson's avatar he started the group.
Sorry but I can't ID the knife in the groups avatar.
  • Jake

Where did you get the Mora Miki and how do you like the sheath?
  • lg&m

I got it in a group buy. I like the knife and sheath so far but I haven't used it yet. I think I will put a peace of inner tube on the sheath to hold the retainer a little tighter and the knife was not very sharp but I don't mind fixing that.
  • Jake

    Thanks for the info!
  • John Lovell

Problem with impala (horn, I assume you are talking about) is that it is difficult to find a section of the horn that is straight enough and has adequate diameter to make a useful handle. And if you did it would likely need to be a hidden tang since the horn isn't "fat" enough to split to make full tang scales. Here is pic of one I made from a scimitar-horned orxy. Same type of horn, just bigger and straighter than impala. It polishes up like glass.

  • Andy Voelkle "AxeMan"

Beautiful knife. Looks strong & sharp!
  • Knife Lady (Sheila)

I think the ESEE IZULA made by Rowen is a fine neck knife. It comes in black, green, tan. pink. I am out of them at the present but will have some on Friday and I am going to keep a pink one for me.
  • J. R. Reeves

  • Jeremi Lett

These are my creations. The saying "1 Man's Trash is Another's Treasure"really can apply to frugal knife makers. The minis were all made from scrap steel or scrap titanium. The 4 larger fixed blades w/wood handles were blanks I got and made wood handles for.Other steel is old industrial saw/circular saw blades.

  • lg&m

You make all those ? very nice. I might want one. (Little cord wraped one on the left)
  • Eugene Coates Smith Jr

Great stuff! I like all of them but the "hawk" really caught my eye!

Thank You so much , that knife is so big projekt , its material has been produced straight for this purpose at the Damasteel firm in Sweeden, as it is chiselled out of 16 mm thick material. As for the theme, I tended to match it to an other similar knife of mine that is called Demon. That is how the theme of the composition became „APOCALYPSE”. I spent 660 hours with making this knife, which involves the carving, chiselling, scrimshaw and the rack. It has been made of RWL-34 steel, ivory handle (of course CITES), the whole length is 199 mm and it is 60 /HRc/ hard.
In under 24 hours after the knife has reached its completition, it received the 1st prize in the decorated knives cathegory of a knife competition as well as the main prize, too.

    Thank s

    Stefan
