Swiss Army Knives

Do you love sak's? This is the place to be

  • Chris Stookey

I've been a proud Swiss Army knife owner for over 30 years. My first Swiss Army knife was of the typical Red plastic handled variety. Since that first one, I've managed to become "addicted" to collecting a variety of the Victorinox brand. Recently, I've developed a particular affinity for the Alox handled versions, with the Cadet model leading the way. Youtube ace, Nutnfancy turned me onto these. He also put me onto the Blue Alox handled "Farmer"...and I really dig that model in a HUGE way. I like the finishes that are put on the Alox...both in color and texture. I also like that the Alox knives feel a little more..."significant". That said, I've not ignored the extremely cool plastic handled models that are out there and recently picked up a beautiful Saphire Blue Climber. Next on my Wish List is the translucent black handled type...preferably another Climber. I just dig the Swiss Army knives...they are wonderful tools.

Just bought a Classic pink Edelweiss for my neice, and a Wenger Std. Issue for myself, gotta love SAK'S!
  • Carlos Rodríguez

I think Wenger and Victorinox are made in the same factory: the blades looks the same and some pieces (springs) are the same. What do you think?
  • Andy Voelkle "AxeMan"

I carry a Wenger I got in Hawaii in 1973. Still performs well.
  • Adam Russell

Hi guys, I used to have a small Swiss army knife & I am now looking for one that is a great all rounder (Urban survival knife) what are you suggestions?
    Thanks.
  • Andy Voelkle "AxeMan"

Adam, I really prefer to pull mine out and marvel at the blade I'm using for the first time in 20 years (and how I HAVE it when I finally wanted to use it). And then take a look at the little blade I don't know 'what the heck' it is. To me, toting too much steel is just needed exercise. My Wenger of 36 years has a lot, but I'm moving up to a Swiss Champ or whatever under-$100 SAK I find that has more blades. Lose the fish scaler, guys!

opps thought i put in several pictures heres the knife the other i think is for keys not sure
  • wayne collinsworth

This is not working well tonight please forgive me. I deleted the first comments.I need information about this knife and what i believe to be a key chain. the knife looks like mother of peril but dont know.On the blade it says victorinox switzerland stainless steel rostfrei. thanks for any help.

  • Carlos Rodríguez

The "key chain" is a real Victorinox issue and very useful for knives with rings at the end, some times the Victorinox shield fell apart, be careful and don´t loose it (you can glued it, I did), . The small knife looks like the standard pocket victorinox (the blades are like mine), but the finnish is very rare (at least to me). Nice piece.

any idea on value or where i might find out .thanks
  • Jake

The Swiss army knife is a Classic SD with mother of pearl handles - very pretty. It's retail value is around $80 but expect less if you sell it. The Classic (nail cleaner instead of flat driver) is still a catalog item.

The key chain fits on a belt. A chain is optional.
  • wayne collinsworth

ok thank you very much think ill be putting both on ebay.

I have a used Boy Scout Yeoman arriving soon. This will be my first Yeoman model.
  • Carlos Rodríguez

Mmmm, the knife pictured as a multitool doesn´t llok like a real sak
  • Carlos Rodríguez

I would like to see an image of the Boy Scout Yeoman. I have been a member of Scouting for 40 years!!
  • Wayne Whitted

    Well I do have a stock image but nothing has yet been taken of the actual knife. I can say it looks exactly like this image here with the addition of the Boy Scout logo on the front scale;

  • Carlos Rodríguez

    Thanks!!!!, nice image!

Shot Show photos are starting to appear and it looks like Victorinox will release a new 111mm line with Dual Density scales, basically a 2 part scale with rubber type grips. Also soon to be released is a model called the "Dual Pro", which has a liner locking main blade and a liner locking rescue blade. Looks like it will come in a variety of blade/tool setups. Here is a photo I found on the web.

  • Wayne Whitted

I have a few larger 111mm knives in my collection but like you I lean towards the "traditional" SAK. My favorite 111mm knife is the "Outrider" with its exceptional group of tools that seem to fit most situations.
  • Wayne Whitted

More Shot Show news about Wenger this time. Wenger is adding some yellow grip scales to several knives including the RangerGrip 178, EVO Grip18 and EVO Grip 81. These scales will have an engraving on the rubber inserts for the "Patagonian Expedition Race". Also they are showing a revamped "Alinghi" model with newer Grip style scales. I do not have any photos I can share at this time, maybe later.

Greets all in the group. Ive got a couple SAK's so figured I would sign up. PS Just uploaded a pic of one to am album in my profile, Anyone here know the name of it ? Model number etc would be helpful ! . Thanks and Enjoy. Glenn

Opps inserted pic here too !

  • Wayne Whitted

Looks like an older "Fireman" model.

  • Glenn K

Thanks for the prompt responce . I have had this knife for quite along time, will do some more searching on that name . Thanks so very much. Glenn
  • Wayne Whitted

  • Glenn K

Thanks ! Yes there is a differance that I can see otherwise the same knife. Mine the main blade is not a liner lock. I will take a pic of the other side. There is a release button intergrated into the knife on the other side. Thanks again ! Glenn
  • Glenn K

Opps perhaps it is a liner lock, just with a retention bar inside the liner at top of blade. GK
  • Glenn K

Ok in reading further it is refered to as a "button lock" Thanks for the most helpful link !
  • Wayne Whitted

The original is a "Slide Lock" using the gray or red plastic slide switch on the back and it moves a small pin out of the way of the lock to allow it to close. There are newer variations and liner locks are part of that but your's looks older so it is probably just the Slide Lock.

I've lost my favorite SAK (my Alox soldier). When we were moving, my SAK was in a box with some other stuff and that went missing.

I guess I'm going to have to grab another one.
  • Mackenzie Soileau (sebenza100)

Does anyone here make custom carbon fiber handles for SAK's (swiss army knives)
