Billy those are some nice knives.   Really nice!!

  • Billy Oneale

Gary, check some of the older post here. Gus has has shown a lot of his bullet knives, even some Bowen bullets.
  • Gary Nelson

Gus, I just checked out some of your pictures from earlier this year and I am very impressed with your collection.  Do you ever show them?

  • Gus Marsh

I show them to some of my knife friends who came over to my home. At my new year party, we almost got into a knife fight, it was over the price of knives. LOL

What do ya'll think of this years Bullet knives?

  • Billy Oneale

I haven't bought one yet. One of the members on Sharpfans said he didn't think the quality was very good, but he may have just got a bad one.

I have been shopping for a Bowen/Bullet knife of late, we'll see how it goes, I have never bought one before.

I have a 2012 Bullet knife. When the Remington CCC was formed in 2009, Bear Cutlery signed a 5 yr. contract to make their knives. I do not know how you can improve on a knife made by Bear, an American made company. I am very pleased with all my Remington knives made since 2009 by Bear.

  • Gary Nelson

I have 5 2012 bullet knives on order.  I am not sure of the price yet.  If anyone wants one let me know.  I'll post pictures when I get them.  Bear & Son is a fine American company!!

I think Bear Knives are great too, I was just wondering what ya'll thought of this years knives. The 30th Anniversary knives in green curly maple handles to be exact. Remington, made a great choice, when it contracted with Bear to make their knives in my opinion.

  • Gus Marsh

On both of my 2011 and 2012 Remington Bullet knives, the action is not smooth and soft like on the older knives. I ordered 3 - Remington Bullet knives 2011, one each for my brother-in-law and my uncle and one for me. I ended up sending two of them back for rework, as they were hard to open and impossible to close.

Gus, that sure does seem like bad luck because I'm sure alot of people have had good results from them.

  • Gary Nelson

This is the 2012 bullet knife "Old Faithful" , a two blade baby bullet trapper R1173.  If anyone wants one it is $65.00 plus $5.00 shipping USA, $13.00 shipping international, USPS Priority Mail.

I will be hosting a chat on "The Story of Remington Knives" in the chat room on Monday, January 30, 2012. This will be from 9 p.m. Eastern (8 Central/ 7 Mountain/ 6 Pacific). Hope you can all join me and share your experiences.

  • Chris Sanders

I've got a lot of NIB vintage Remington knives.  Is there a place or resource to help me value these?  I think there are at least 50 knives/sets.  I'm looking to get an idea on value because I'm selling them.  I inherited a collection and am not into knifes.  Thanks, Chris.

Chris, scroll down and look at pages 10 trough 14. Gus Marsh has alot of info on the bullet knives there. You may have to post pictures and model numbers and year and get members to help with a price. I am interested in what you have and I'm sure others also. I hope this helps a little.

Well, I got news that my 1930's bullet knife may be ready this week. I'm having it restored by the Muskrat Man. We decided that it was just too nice an old grand knife not to restore it to some of it's former glory. We hope to restore it but not try to make it new again, show some of it's age. I guess, it's something only a knife collector could apreciate. I will post some pictures, when the old knife arrives.

  • Billy Oneale

Can't wait to see it, Robert.

Well Billy, I got her in today, she's really sweet. I'm gonna try post some pictures. I can tell you this, if you have a knife to restore contact the Muskratman. He took this knife and has reall done a great job bringing her back to life.

My grand daughter took a couple of pictures for me. These pictures are okay but I need to take some close ups. The restoration job was great. I love this old knife. I have read that this model knife was Al Capone's favorite.

  • Billy Oneale

    Nice!

I would never sell this knife but I sure would like to know the value. I know the value of a mint condition, this ones in good shape but shows a little of its age. Help anyone?

Any of our Remington collectors, have an idea?

  • Gus Marsh

I spent a lot of time in my Remington Guide book today, looking for your knife, it would really help if I had the pattern number. Is this a Bullet Banana 5 1/4 inches and are the handles bone or genuine stag.

  • Gus Marsh

On the tang  of your Remington knife, it should say something like R1273, if its not there, you are in deep trouble.

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Thanks for your trouble Gus. The tang stamp is R1253, the #3 is a little fuzzy and could be the #8. I had someone look it up and have it written down in one of my knife books but I can't put my hand on the book right now. The handle is jigged bone. I think it's the 5 1/4" Guide knife.

  • Jan Carter

    Robert,

That rehandle is sweet and I agree.  That knife was way! to nice to not retore

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Thanks Miss Jan, I really adore the knife. I don't think I could have been able to buy one, if I hadn't made a great deal. The Muskrat Man, really did a wonderful job. Oh, he's one of our members.

Someone posted, that they had sold one, 3 years ago, for $1650. Now I can't find that post anywhere. I didn't get a chance to respond. What happened?

  • Gus Marsh

Robert, In my "Official Price Guide to Collector Knives" 15th  Edition, the R1253 Remington Bullet "Banana" Hunter with bone, the mint price is $2,300.

  • Gus Marsh

On eBay, there is a Remington R1253 original up to $100.00 with 6 days  to go.

  • Billy Oneale

Well, I finally decided to buy the 30th anniversary bullet knife. The tin was great, but I was a little disappointed in the quality of the scales on this green curly maple.

  • Gary Nelson

Billy, Did you get the poster with the knife?

  • Billy Oneale

    No
