OK guy's - The time has come for all you Rough Rider buyers to come out of the "Closet". With just about every major knife company having all or part of their knives built in China it is OK to say - "Yes" I have Rough Riders in my collection. I was hammered pretty hard when i added Rough Rider to my line-up of knives that i engrave.
So tell us the what you have aquired from RR. If you have any Rough Riders you have customized, send me a pic & i will feature them on mjy web page - tom
JJ - I have all my pic's on my web page - I delete them as they sell or if i don't have another one instock that I can engrave - A Sunfish makes a good one to warn cliff that small blade - then you have something you can clean your finger nails with - tom
Yep - thats it - thats the way the Sunfish should have been made in the first place - If I have a 2 blade knife i would like a California Clip & a Warn Cliff - best of both worlds - tom
i think they do - i sent in an order over the week-in & i think I ordered a couple to engrave for stock - I'll take a pix when they get here - should be Thurs or Fri - tom
Alright, I am coming out of the closet. I probably have around 200 Rough Riders. They were one of the imports that got me started. Good knifes for a good price and they will give you good service. Lots and lots of patterns. They are one of the few brands that you can find sunfish, elephant toenails and leg patterns in.My wife has me buy her every ladyleg I come across. Smoothbone and Stag are my favotite handle materials in the Rough Rider line.
Hey RR's are pretty nice and offer a beginner a way into collecting some well made and sometimes very pleasing knifes in many styles, without braking the bank.
Steve, I Know that Rough Rider has several styles of Fixed Blades. Only one that I have is the B&T in the first Stag series. Seems that the Fixed Blades, in any handle material, are almost always the first to sell out. That should tell SMKW something...
This one was under $20.00. And it is real stag too. (Stag on the second series was better though, but no fixed blade.)
SMKW lists over 20 Rough Rider Fixed Blades, from a Small Hunter for $7.00 (RR070) to a Rough Rider Presentation Hunter for $35.00 (RR1097). Bunch more in between too.
Go to the SMKW website and type in Rough Rider Fixed Blade, ENJOY.
China keeps the value of its currency low so it can sell its products all over the world at a lower price than most contries. I feel its OK to buy knives from other countries but we must continue to support our USA knife makers.
Well let me tell you - the "closet" is stuffed with all kinds of members hiding their little secret. But I am hear to join the ranks and officially say "R.R. knives are the best deal out there and FUN to collect". Nothing makes me question what I am doing more than paying a lot of hard earned dough on an expensive knife. I mean they are just that - "knives" right they are suppose to be fun to collect. Come on the rest of you - we know your in there - kick that door open and expose yourselves.
Our membership went flat - Only 14 members - I haven't had time to post much - been busy in the shop - My knife business is about as flat as this forum has been the past few days - but I'm still getting customers knives to engrave, motorcycle parts & I have a Corvette Project I'm working on for this years car shows.
This "Gas" thing sure slowed things up - I got Fed-EX in today - he said his loads have really gone up since the gas went up - guess more folks are buying on line & driving less.
I got an order of Rough Riders in - I ordered a fixed blade but didn't pay much attention when I ordered it - it's a little bird knife - Looks nice - I need some larger stick knives to scratch up - Whats going on with you guys - tom
Yeah - Thats what I say - I engraved a few new ones - Have some on order - I one guy buy everyone of my engraved one I had - Over all business is very slow - tom
RR is what I buy for my son. He really likes then and doesnt feel too bad if he tips a blade or loses one. There is nothing wrong with them. The materials are a good grade
JJ, nice modification on that whittler. Jan, at least if you only spend 9 or 10 dollars on a Rough Rider and it gets broke or lost it's not something that will be hard to replace unless you have it modified like JJ. I have a bunch in knife rolls that I started out collecting because of the quality and what you pay. There are lots of styles and variations.
Well I lost a RR Congress whittler and circled the neighborhood for 45 minutes looking for it. They may be inexpensive but I really like them and do feel bad when one gets lost or damaged. Only difference is I can replace it easier (Uusally) than I can more expensive knives. Still, I don'tt hink I'm going to be playing mumblery-peg with my Moonshiner Sowbelly or fileting a fish with my Stroke of Luck of Toothpick.
