Just got my tiny/small/baby Trappers. Ok, I've got a new small knife for EDC....if I can only decide which I like better; RR1028 Tiny Trapper with Bark Bone, RR858 Baby Barehead Trapper, or RR765 Baby Trapper (Copperhead Trapper) amber jigged bone.  Deffinitley top grade pocket jewelry one and all!
  • Tobias Gibson

How big are these when closed?

    Craig Henry

Oops, sorry, I guess I should have given more info!

Does anyone have one of these? I really like the looks of it. I want someone to twist my arm to get it......it won't take much twisting. LOL!

  • Billy Oneale

No, but I wouldn't mind having one.

So many knives, so little money.
  • Tobias Gibson

I too have thought about it but you can only have so many Bowies. (or can you ?)

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Yeah, they're a little hard to display and/or store. I guess I could hang all of them around my belt.....it'll impress the Mailman.

    Craig Henry

Ok then, anyone have one or both of these?

  • Jan Carter

I dont know Craig but it appears to me that you would need all three of these.  Doesn't seem anyone else has them yet. You know we need someone to do a review and it should be you because Tobias did the last few.  I think it's your turn

     Have I twisted enough yet?

  • Tobias Gibson

As a Collector's Club what would we do?  Perhaps we need to become a fan club.  Again to what purpose.  My review page is designed to promote the product.  I suppose this group is here for the same purpose.  As a fan or collectors club we would need to have a purpose, most likely something to do with the promotion of the product.  Would we also look at some type of non-for profit work that we would support to make it worth while to SMKW to officially charter such efforts.
  • Tobias Gibson

Jan, just so you know, my next review is going to be on the Rough Rider Bartenders.  That will be followed by the Ulu skinner and possibly the Coal Miner knives.

If you have access to knives live TV this is the night to build your collection.   $100 in Rough Riders gets you a $20 SMKW gift card.   Direct TV  320     Dish is on 224.

Go to SMKW.com and check out the Rough Rider brand, find a $100 worth of RRs

So far the 5 inch stone worx took pick and the 4 inch stoneworx stockman were both $11.99.

If you don't have satellite   go to the web site, find the RR you want  and give a call to 1-800-998-7659 and ask to put the knives on the media code.  $5 flat rate shipping with the media code.  Dosen't matter if the knife was on the show or not.  You got a 3 to 5hours before the deal runs out.

If you don't feel like spending a $100 you can still get the $5 flat rate shipping on any order.  you just need to spend $100 for the gift card.

    Craig Henry

    Yeah, that's a good deal!

Also, the $50 worth of RR to  get a $10 gift card, $100 worth of RR to get a $20 gift card, is good through 12-31-11. I took advantage of the $50/gift card deal a couple of weeks ago. It was so good I think I'll have seconds.

This is the Damascus kinife I will get if they ever get them back in - Rough Rider RR1021 -

  • Billy Oneale

    That's a good choice, Craig.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Yeah, they sold out of both sizes of those Damascus lockbacks. They were supposed to get them back in in September. I'm about to give up hope.
  • Billy Oneale

Did you check the saturday night knife and gun show site?
  • Tobias Gibson

Is it Damascus ir is it stainless that looks like Damascus?

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

That one pictured below (both sizes) is real, gen-you-wine San-Mai Damascus.
  • Tobias Gibson

Duh1 Should've checked.  They have a couple in faux Damascus but two made with and those are the one.   They're going for the $35-40 on ebay and Amazon

Saturday night knife and gun show site?

I contacted SMKW a while back and they told me they were supposed to be in in September, and that the demand has been unbelieveable.

  • Billy Oneale

yes, the show that Mike Politoski does on Saturday nights. It comes on the web and dish. I have Direct tv so I watch him on the computer when I watch. Sometimes he shows RR before knives live airs them on the show.
  • Billy Oneale

You may want to check Blade Matrix or this site out. They both showed them for $24.95 plus shipping.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

I saw it listed at bladematrix.com the other day. I may give him a call and see if he actually has them. The only thing I don't like about ordering from him is, his site says - "We carry instock about 30% of what is shown on the website." And it's true. Many times I've ordered from him and it takes an extra few days because he has to get them in himself. I get the feeling it's a lot less than 30%.
  • Alexander Noot

I've wanted that one for ages now. But the shipping always ends up being almost as much as the price of the knife so I haven't so far.

It ticks all my boxes, red jigged bone, lock back, damascus, san-mai.....what's not to love!

Maybe I'll get it anyway this time.... (Anyone know of a place that stocks them that has cheap shipping to europe?)

  • Tobias Gibson

    I wish!   That's pretty cool.
  • Billy Oneale

I have one, Ivars. I will post some pics later. i stained mine.

    Craig Henry

I have two of the knife chests. As far as I know bladematrix.com DOES still have some left. I got mine for $13.95!

Speaking of bladematrix.com........I called bladematrix and Cecil said he does NOT have the RR1021 Damascus lockback in stock. He said he thinks he can get one somewhere. So, I don't know. When I get out to pick the money tree I might try to see if he can get me one. I have so many other RRs to get I'll have to see.

I think my money tree needs  fertilizer.

  • Billy Oneale

Here is the pic of my Rough rider chest. I got it free from SMKW for buying some RR knives. Craig, did you check with HR knives? That was the website I got that from.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

That looks good Billy! I left mine natural with a coat of  Minwax clear satin polyurethane.

No, I didn't try hrknives.com yet. I've never done business with them, but I'll try sending them an email asking if they actually have it, or they think they can get it.

  • Alexander Noot

I just ordered the small version of the Damascus Rough Rider from a dealer in the states.

I'm very curious as to how I'll like it.

    Robert Burris

Alex, which one did you order? The lockback?
  • J.J. Smith III

Stain looks good on the RR chest, Billy.

There is no doubt that a roll is more transportable and in theory will hold more knives in less space, however, I'm not crazy about using a roll for long time storage.  I currently house my knives in chest of drawers lined with felt.   I suppose they will collect more dust but as I routinely wipe them down, I don't see this as a major problem  I also have several knives out for display.  Again they need to be wiped on a routine basis.  I want easy access and also want to show knives easily.

I currently don't own a knife roll.  If I need to transport a large number of knives,  I'll probably use my camera case, which is made of anodized aluminum and several layers of  foam rubber.  I'd wrap the knives in acid free archive paper and place them between the layers of foam.  If I needed a larger container, I've got plenty of foam rubber as well as a very large suit case.

Space is a major consideration.  I've got the space so I have plenty of options. If you don't have space, a roll may be an ideal solution  because you can pack knives aways and display them in a small amount of space fairly quickly.

Needing  to haul knives is another consideration.  If you're hitting the shows and moving your knives often, the roll or a special carrying cases are probably a necessity.

  • J.J. Smith III

    Ivars,

When considering a roll, it's a good idea to find out if it has different sized loops or not.  I had one that had a hodge-podge of different sizes that I felt were waisted.

  • Tobias Gibson

On a different note.   Up for bid on eBay is what appears to be 10 RR in the imitation Abalone.  Starting bid is 55.00  and $8 shipping  (Not my auction and I'm not bidding -- I have no pony in this race!)   If you're interested you can find it on eBay with this auction number:  290627084708

Ok, BIG update on the whole RR1021 Damascus lockback story -

I said that bladematrix.com said he did not have any in stock.......WRONG! He DOES have a couple in stock! Also hrknives.com has four in stock!

This is what happened; I emailed hrknives.com and asked if they have them .  They said yes. I told my wife I was going to order one. She looked upset and told me she already ordered one from bladematrix.com for me for Christmas! Sooo, I'm getting one, and both of those dealers DO have them if anyone wants one. At least two dealers to pick from.

And, I use knife packs for storage, and the knife chests for jewelry boxes....which means EDC knives.

  • robert benton

the  RR1021 is this the one with the damascus blade, bolsters and jigged bone handke,if so i have one but the lock is broken
  • robert benton

I love mine it is a real nice knife you will love it,I got mine from a dealer who is no longer in business. i already contacted SMKW and they could not warenty it because i had no proof of purchase and the dealer went out of business which is a bummer because it was my fav EDC and everyone that i showed it to thought it was a custom costing a couple of hundred bucks
  • robert benton

i plan to get another one in the future maybe whe SMKW gets them back in stock
  • Billy Oneale

Glad to hear that, Craig. I need to get me one. They are nice looking. Robert, I heard on the knives live show tonight that they don't know when they will have them back. They said the factory made a mistake on the price of the first ones. Of course SMKW is in the business of selling knives. They acted like if they got more, the price would be more than what they originally sold for. It's important to buy from a reputable dealer who will take care of you. SMKW has resolved any issue I had.I'm sorry that the dealer you bought from went out of business. I always save receipts and shipping lists on mine , just in case. I think Toby emailed SMKW during the show tonight, which is what sparked Steve's response.
