Rough Rider Stoneworx Trapper. Avery classy looking knife. They make the Stoneworx in most of the common patterns.

Rough Rider Outdoorsman Series 5 bladed Trapper. I now have saved a few pictures of this one. Every single time I get this one out, it "bites" me and that includes this time! Either there are too many blades or I have too many fingers for this knife. Smoothbone with razor blade makes this an interesting knife.

What I can say is I have the RR844 Burl Wood Hunter and and the RR776 Ulu skinner and both are excellent.  The the 844  is ever bit as good, in not better than my Buck 479 BKS  and looks much better.  I use the Ulu skinner all the time cutting frozen and thawed meet in the kitchen.  Great for mincing veggies and also for scraping.      RR makes a good fixed blade.  I'm looking at getting the Sidewinder and/or Wolverine in the Heavy Hunter Series.

Steve, I took a look at those Heavy Hunters, they look real good. I would think they would put how thick the steel is, since advertised as a Heavy Hunter but they don't. I guess, you could call them and find out. They look tough, though.

With the exception of the Wolverine which is the Bird and Trout knife in the series, all of the Heavy Hunters have 440A blades made from 3/16 inch blade stock.  All feature a hollow ground blade.  All use the same finger grooved handle except the Wolverine.  The Wolverine has 1/8 in blade stock and standard straight handle.  Hope this helps.

Great info, Tobias. The 3/16" blade thickness, is thick enough for a heavy style knife. Steve was the one looking for info. Someone will buy one soon and we'll all get a first hand review. From what I have seen so for from Rough Riders, I'm sure you are safe spending the money on one.

I have 9 Rough Rider Fixed Blades. As far as I can tell as long as it is made in China its going to be good. Avoid the Hunter's Buddy - its made in Pakistan.  Also avoid the Smoky Mountain Toothpick, a boot knife that is has unsharpened edges (RR626, RR1245)

As a matter of fact, I'm very weary of any SMKW knife made in Pakistan.  You can usually spot the knife because it has  (A) a stag handle or (B) damascus steel blade.  The brands include Colt, American Hunter, Marbles, Fox N Hound and  Black Jack.  

There not overly bad but they tend to use 420 instead of 440 Steel and the stag is not what I'd call high grade.  That said, My BW Clover Skinner and my Fox N hound Fixed Blade Ulu Skinner were both surprisingly excellent, especially for the price paid.

I've been waiting for it to come back in stock.  I like that shield!

When it first came out, they showed it on KnivesLives.  It as sold out a day later.  That version has been on back order ever since.  I don't want the knife with the acorn shield.  I want the dog bone dog whistle knife!

That is a nice knife. I use a dog whistle in training some of my hunting dogs but it's just a regular whistle. Have ya'll ever used a dog whistle like the one on this knife?

Robert, I've had several of those types of dog whistles. I trained dogs for over 20 years for Obedience, Field, Tracking, Shutzhund, and Therapy dogs. I had several whistles tuned to the right pich for certain applications. A dog whistle is a great tool but you need to be taught how to use one just as the dog is taught how to respond to one.

Thanks Chuck, the way I use a whistle for my dogs is mostly to catch their attention, that I am turning one way or the other, in the woods. I also use it to let them know where I am and if I blow it a lot. that I want them to come to me. I use them to find small game. The silent whistle may not work good for my needs.

Any idea when the RR carbon steel knives are coming out?

I'm of the opinion that these are now just a rumor.  I assume if and when, they will be made in El Salvador.

It might be a rumor but El Salvador makes some great carbon steel machetes. That might be a good place to have them made, if it's not just a rumor.

It is truly conjecture on my part.  SMKW outsources several knives with carbon steel blades (normally 1070) to Condor Knife and Tool.  This includes the orange Marbles machetes and field knives and the Rough Rider Paratrooper Bowie.  so in theory at least one RR knife has been made of Carbon Steel for some time.

I just purchased my103rd Rough Rider!   I have about 11 on the "to buy" list.  Is it time for an RR intervention?

Wow, Tobias, I must have missed that RR fixed blade. I need to check it out. I am in the market for a similar knife for my Grand Daughter. The knife I bought her broke in half, in almost new condition. I don't think counting your knives is good for the heart. I don't want to know how many I have. lol

I wonder when SMKW is going to get more of the Dog Bone jacks with the dog bone shield back in stock?? Anyone hear or know anything on this??

I found one of the Dogbone Jacks with a bone shield on eBay!! Yes Ken, MOP would be sweet!! They had a BOGO deal on a Sowbelly MOP but they sold out before the operator at SMKW could get my order logged in. 2 for $12.99 was too good to ignore!

I gave up on SMKW and the Dogbone with with the bone shield.  I've order frome elsewhere.  Thus, I assume they should be in stock at SMKW any time now.  That's usually the way it works for me!

In my opinion, the Sawcut bone knives are some of the best looking knives in the Rough Rider Line.  You can't go wrong with them.  I especially like the first run with the round horseshoe shield!

I just ordered 5 new Rough Riders from Friday night's show.  RR1405 & 1406 the RR Appaloosa in both red and brown. RR1015 the Dogleg Trapper. RR1368 Trapper with stainless steel clip and ceramic spey blades. I've had this one on my want list for a long time, ever since it came out. And RR1381 the Gadsen Trapper. I ordered a few more that aren't Rough Riders but I got carried away. I'll post pics when they get here!

OOOOPS, the RR1015 Thqat I just mentioned is a Jack and not a Trapper.

Rough Rider is coming out with a line of folders called "Hazardous Swirl"  I've seen the Trapper, Coke Bottle, and Mini Trapper advertised at SMKW.  Haven't seen any others.   But I'm assuming a few other patterns will be made because  it would appear the Hazardous Swirl Marlin Spike  fell off a truck or something and somehow ended up at my house.

Steve, it is no secret that I'm not a big fan of swirly plastic. But my problem is I can't see paying top dollar on a knife for Swirly Plastic simply because a famous name is attached to it!

$12 for a Rough Rider marlin spike in swirly plastic? -- I'll take it!

Case knife in  Swirly plastic for $60? - No thank you!  I expect a quality bone handle for that price!
