I want to be the first one to order a GEC with squirrel tooth ivory. Serial number two [number one is kept at the factory], I would be glad to go after them critters for the teeth to make knife handles. What a job, I'm retired but I am willing to go back to work for this special cause.

  • Tom Peterson

Robert, I can't wait to see your knife idea come to fruition! May have to do a mosaic of squirrel teeth/ivory to pull off a full handle set. That's a lot of squirrels! Hats off to you for taking one for the team with your willingness to come out of retirement for this project. I am waiting for the musk ox handles myself! I recently saw a Randall Made Knife with a Narwhal horn handle and that was pretty unique. Don't know where folks collect this stuff?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Tom, musk ox is really great stuff. Treeman knives makes more knives with it than any other knife makers I have seen. I heard that Randall knives only makes two a year with it. Oh, you are right it might take quite a few squirrel teeth to make one knife.lol

    Robert Burris

Well Miss Jan, whats the word from up north? Do we need some squirrel teeth?..lol

  • Jan Carter

LOL, get some prime teeth.  We can always have it set in an acrylic to make the handles.  After that I want one in Beaverteeth please LOL

  • Clint Thompson

Well Pro-Tech makes knives with Mastodon teeth so why not squirrel teeth.  It would only take about 40 or so squirrels.  LOL!

  • Jan Carter

This is mammoth teeth chips in resin

  • Clint Thompson

    lCustom Switchblade

An example of mammoth teeth chip resin. Cost  $2,400 USD

  • Clint Thompson

Egads Woman!! You have solved out Squirrel teeth dilemma.  We will compile the little buggers teeth and....dare I say it....yes I will....a Squirrel Teeth Chip Resin.  Good work Jan.  LOL! I never thought to ask about mammoth teeth scales.  Thanks for the 411!

We may have to work around the price point, $2400USD, may be a little high for a squirrel tooth handle. I think this might be because of the "World Wide" demand for "Squirrel Teeth". I think GEC can find a way to help us out on this.....lol

  • Clint Thompson

    Robert...

No worries.  Here is our first contributing victim...I mean volunteer.

  • Jan Carter

Dont worry guys we know someone that may be able to get us a better price if we are providing the teeth.  But can we possibly supply the world wide demand.  How many "volunteers" are out there.

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

I volunteer, I will take to the woods and hunt for squirrels, I know it will be a rough job but I am willing to do it for the good of the cutlery industry. I might need help, maybe Johnny can help and a few other willing adventurers.....lol

  • Clint Thompson

GREAT SCOTT!  We will have to get an export license.

  • johnny twoshoes

I'm in, the 22 is loaded and ready to go.

You know it's funny they have "Squirrels" in their trade mark but no handle sheilds. They have a beaver, why not a squirrel?

  • Jan Carter

Dont mess with the beaver now (LOL)

    Robert Burris

I want to see some "Missouri Pattern Knives", whats the hold up? Two years and waiting, folks. That's a good one Stephen. Some times I feel like a nut and sometimes I don't...lol

  • Jan Carter

For those of you not on US soil, TSA knives is giving free international shipping until June 1.  FYI

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Well, gang, I've already started saving up for the first squirrel tooth knife handle. lol

  • Jan Carter

I sincerely apologize if anyone saw the FYI on international shipping as advertising.  I should have clarified that I was not advertising for TSA, just letting our offshore folks know that there was a shipping deal going on right now.  Mostly because I know that shipping can be costly outside of the US and sometimes adds an exorbitant amount to the purchase of a knife.  We have a good number of members that are offshore and I was just excited to share a deal.

I frequently check all the GEC dealers sites and try to pass on any such savings I can.  If you are a dealer and wish to allow for free international shipping, let me know.  I would love to pass that info on to our folks here also.  Anything to help get GEC knives into the hands of  GEC collectors (at the best prices I can find for them)

    Thank you all for understanding

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Oh Miss Jan, we know you were just trying to help everyone you could. You don't play favorites, you have talked good about all our dealers here on IKC.  An extra savings like that should be passed on to our members. No one should complain about saving a little money....lol

  • johnny twoshoes

Jan keeps us updated on everything. If I ever have a problem finding a knife, she is the one to go see, she keeps up with all the dealers and knows whats going down. Thankfully we have her as a member, if I was outside of the US, I would love to know that I could catch a break on shipping.

I live in the US and I still want a break, LOL.

  • johnny twoshoes

Robert, awesome job getting started, those would be perfect for a tiny Toothpick.

What grade of squirrel ivory is that?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

I think the squirrel thought they were Prime grade.

  • johnny twoshoes

    HEHE, probably so.

Our squirrel have smaller teeth than those southern tree rats.

  • Jan Carter

Those squirrels are just lining up to volunteer aren't they

Thanks for understanding guys, I appreciate it

  • Jan Carter

ooops, one more thing Johnny.  Old Hundred collectibles does offer free US shipping and our own Ken Mundhenk (Blue Creek Cutlery) offers FREE SHIPPING TO U.S.A and CANADA

Save some shipping and remember I dont advertise for any dealers, I just pass on deals to YOU.

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Good girl as fair as can be. Well what do you think of the quality of that squirrel ivory?

  • Jan Carter

I think that squirrel ivory is a good grade Robert and I guarantee you that I had no idea their teeth were that big.

  • johnny twoshoes

Yeah, those are some decent sized teeth for a little rat. I'll have to get some teeth off of one of my fallen foes. But we may have to wait until hunting season.

  • Jan Carter

I wonder how many teeth it takes?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

We need to talk to GEC about a new sheild, they have pipe wrenches and all sorts of stuff, we need a "Squirrel" to match their Logo.....Miss Jan, it might take quite a few, but I'm willing to take to the woods and do what I can....lol

  • Jan Carter

I will be making a point of taking to Ms. Chris about a squirrel but we may have to settle for an acorn for our squirrel teeth

  • Jan Carter

    Anyone order one yet?

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Well we already have an acorn, now we have wrenches for roughnecks. I doubt a roughneck ever bought a quality knife. I'll bet theres a ton of small game hunters out there not everyone can make a big game hunt. GEC seems to be on a large knife kick, I guess they know how to sell knives better than me. That Roughneck is one nice knife, I must say.

  • Bob Andrews

Roughnecks are buyin Lots and lots of knives up here.Everyday. The Marcellus Shale is boomin! A bunch of Gypsy from loosyiana too!

  • Jan Carter

Well Robert it seems to go in cycles.  LOL, everyone wants the larges until they have had enough of them and then the smaller seems to come in for awhile..  The middle size is in the mix somewhere too.  I am certain we will all see our favorite patterns come through again

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

What are you trying to say Bob?

  • Clint Thompson

Bob is saying, there are a lot of new people in his State who are along way from home and are making lots of money.  Because they are away from home, they have a good deal of disposal income so they are buying things they did not feel they could afford before.  Also, most likely they left their financier over watch committee of one (wife) behind so there is no one to say, "What do you need another knife for?"  LOL!

  • Jan Carter

I never understand that question Clint.  "What do you need another knife for".  Even before I joined Donnie in the collecting realm, I always seemed to have understood that knives are tools.  Tools that can make a hard job easier and quicker.  Now that I collect also, I even have friends that ask me the question LOL.  Standard answer for me is...because I want one

  • Clint Thompson

    Jan....

Yes I know but I don't have this problem with my better half.  But many do.

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Yes, we have quite a few Roughnecks here in Louisiana too, most are young hard working guys that have not gotten into knife collecting. They sure know what a good knife is though. We were in a light hearted conversation about squirrel teeth and stuff and I was still in that mood when I made my remarks about roughnecks and all. I have alot of friends and relatives that were roughnecks when they were young, right before I went to work for the Wild Life and Fisheries of the state of Louisiana, guess what? I was a roughneck for a couple of years.

  • Jan Carter

Great Eastern makes many knives for other brands.  I have always admired the cotton sampler pattern and recently was able to pick up the Krack a Jack's line made by GEC.

  • Jan Carter

Wow, so quiet in here.  You could here a knife drop (and everyone rush to see if its ok)

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

I was wondering what the boss, Scott King, thinks about all these large pattern knives by GEC? I know he is a large pattern knife collector and these should fit the bill. Well, what do you think, I think they are great knives that should make collectables, now and down the road.

  • johnny twoshoes

Not for me Robert, I'll be getting a #36 one of these days, but not a Roughneck.

  • In Memoriam

    Robert Burris

Yes Johnny, there to big for me, but I'm sure alot people want them as collectables. It's a great knife and should get the big knife crowd excited. I'm still waiting for the "Missouri" pattern.
