Queen Cutlery & Friends

Knives have been made at the factory of Queen Cutlery Company of Titusville Pennsylvania for over 100 years. It is arguably the oldest and last American Cutlery that truly continues to produce knives in the same way as they were produced there when the factory opened in 1902. The factory’s first tenant was the Schatt & Morgan Cutlery Company: Queen Cutlery Company displaced Schatt & Morgan there in 1933. Queen City Cutlery Company first began to produce knives in 1918 around the end of the First World War, incorporated in 1922, and shortened their name to “Queen Cutlery Company” in January of 1946.  Purchased by Daniels Family Cutlery Corporation on September 18, 2012

I am more than 2,000 miles away from Greg, at TSA Knives.  When Greg mails me a knife I can count on it arriving on the second day after shipping.  Frank's the same.  Outstanding!!

I never wait past three days for a knife.  Never.

Yes, I am spoiled.   And I buy more knives from these folks.   lol

  • Jan Carter

Me too, and I have the same experience with Frank and Reeds.  I learned a while ago, The price on knives, if you stick with a dealer you know and like, will work out just as well over a year as trying to buy them here and there for a little less.  Just my opinion.  I am very pleased to hear that your knife will come, just a little confused on the timeframes

  • Jack Haskins, Jr.

Jan, I assume the knife is coming based on the folks here and their faith in Mike who I guess runs the site I ordered from.  I haven't heard from anyone (guess there's only one :)) at the site.   I'm confident I'll get it also though.  I have two inet knive sites I love but they don't sell what I'm looking for now.  I'm interested in the "normal" type pocket knives I grew up with at the moment.  One thing about knives is there are so many different types you'll stay busy experiencing even a few of the styles.  My interests are limited to what I will carry.  I'm tempted to buy a knive all the time until I ask myself honestly if I'd carry it.  Maybe I'll start collecting someday but not today.  Another reason not to collect is I don't have the money for that.  I'm good for a few knives a year and that's it.

    Jack,

I'm too old to get real impatient, but wait till you "pre-order" a knife!  Lessee if I can remember the drug, popular back in the '70s - yeah, Valium.  You'll need some.  You read the specs., build up a thirst for it, order it (probably over $100.) and months go by.  Hahahahha.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Pre-orders are the best.  Like you said, you pay and get all excited, and then 6 months later you've completely forgotten about it.  When a knife finally shows up in the mail it's like a birthday present.  Sometimes those are my favorite.

  • Jack Haskins, Jr.

Howard,  I did pre-order a knife once.  That WAS torture.  There were several on the same forum waiting for the release date.  Of course we never knew an exact date.  We had a timeframe to expect an email but that was it.  If that wasn't bad enough when the knife was released there were only about 50 or so of the 600 total.  So some got theirs on a first order first received.  I had to wait for the second bunch.  Then I was waiting  and reading the posts of others telling how they loved the knives. lol  At least that time I knew there was a long wait.  I'm feeling better now about this order but when it was mentioned that someone had waited 3 months for an order I'll be honest, I wasn't  a happy person.   That can be expected in a pre-order or even a back order.  In fact if I at least got a reply from 5 messages I sent I'd feel better.  I think I need to stop talking about this.

    Jack

  • Jack Haskins, Jr.

John, thanks much for the email to Mike Sullivan, owner of queencutlerycollectors.com.  He replied this morning and let me know he would find out about my order and let me know.  First he apologized for the delay in replying.  So now I feel back to normal.  Delays happen and now the communication I'm used to has been restored.  I might even get the knife pretty soon. :)  That's a joke.  So, coffee is brewing, got a reply from Mr. Sullivan, gonna be a good day. :)

You sound like me Jack!  I know that problems happen. I just wish dealers would make sure they reply to customers in a timely fashion. That's all it takes to make a person feel better. When I'm left in the dark I see all kinds of monsters! LOL!

  • Jan Carter

Well my faith is restored.  Like you, I just like communication

Cant wait to see everyone at the Show this weekend.  The house sitter is chompin at the bit to be out of thier apt and staying in the house LOL

Fridays Knives live contest is Count the Queen and while I am at the show I will pick up something I think you will like for the prize :)

  • Jack Haskins, Jr.

I'm sorry to say I can't make it to the show. :sad face:  However I'd like your address.  I understand much parties will be there! lol

  • Jack Haskins, Jr.

Jan, I pasted your post so my post would be easily understood.  This part of the forum doesn't seem to have a way to "quote" a post I'm replying to. Your post is under mine.

Communication has been restored which makes me happy. I am in for a wait for the knife though.  It is scheduled to be made next week.  I'm assuming they have a run of the Queen small lockblade scheduled and not making one knife for me.  Not a $50 range knife especially. :)  Normally I would have cancelled this order and placed it with another vendor but I'm going to stick with this guy for now.  I may use him/them again when I want to get my son a Queen knife for his birthday. His birthday is in May. :)  Still looking forward to the knife.

Here is a awesome Queen City pattern # 29, English Jack.  I can't believe I won it in the knife raffle on Saturday.  Very very happy.

  • Ron Cooper

Carl, You lucky dawg! That #29 is beautiful! Only a few hours ago I had commented on an English Jack that was in one of Jan's pics from the event. That's a great pattern and a really special knife. That shield absolutely rocks! Congratulations and enjoy, my friend!

I heard through the Knife Vine, that a limited edition Moose, with Ebony handles, was produced a while back. Please let us know more about it.

  • KnifeMaker

    Dave Taylor

Robert you are absolutely correct and this knife just happens to be featured in the TSA Knives store which of course can be found and accessed right here on iKC.

Check it out my friend, it is an impressive knife indeed.

  • KnifeMaker

    Dave Taylor

Robert, if you go over to TSA Knives for a look at that big Swell Center Schatt & Morgan be sure to check out Greg's Blog as well.  The knife is featured there with comments and a good picture.  1095 blade steel and only 100 made.

    Robert Burris

Thanks Dave, I'll do that. I have bought knives from TSA Knives and Greg before. I love Moose pattern knives. I can't afford to buy them all and I collect other knives as well. I may get this one, though.

  • KnifeMaker

    Dave Taylor

If you happen to get one Robert, be sure to let us know how you like it.  I was just looking through my Schatt & Morgan 1903 and 1907 catalog reprints and found a very similar knife in both catalogs.  I like using the old time patterns like that.

  • Jan Carter

Folks I have lots more factory pics and even a video of parts of the tour.  When I get home I will get them up!

  • Paul Ring

    Alright Jan.... Can't hardly wait!
  • Jan Carter

I dont know if you all have seen this.  It is one of the reasons I am PROUD to call Ken Daniels and Queen Cutlery Co. friends

The Queen Kiddo Project, Ken gives kids 13 years and under a free knife with this label on it. He decided to do this project to help pass on his love for knife collecting. Every year if they bring this knife back he will add another free knife to their collection. Its all about starting them a collection, sparking their interest and seeing their smiles on their faces.

  • Paul Ring

Wow, what a heart, this is putting your money where your heart is!
Thanks for caring Ken Daniels and Queen Cutlery!
Thanks Jan for sharing this with us!
  • Ron Cooper

These seeds that Ken is planting today, and nurturing year by year, will yield a whole new crop of knife collectors. That's a man with a vision for the future!

    Bravo, Mr. Daniels ~ BRAVO!

  • Jess Cobb

Wow! My esteem for Queen has just gone up. Great job Mr. Daniels. I will be adding more Queen knives to my collection.

  • Jim Thompson

Thanks Ken for a great way to help those of us that love knives & promotes their safe use and collectability. Thank you Jan for getting this out to us. Ryan will be at our show & I will shake his hand & commend them for this.

  • Paul Ring

Jan is there any way you could get a picture of this knife posted on this site? Curious to at least get to see a picture! Thank-you. Paul
