Well from what I understand it was originally Queen City Cultery and took the name from where it is made, Titusville.  At one time Titusville was a largest oil town in Pennsylvania, and possibly the entire USA and was known as the "Queen City of Oil" 

A queen city is the largest city in a state when that city is not the state's capital (Chicago would the Queen City of Illinois)  Over time, Queen City Cutlery Company dropped the word "city" from its name and it became Queen Cutlery.   The Queen City Tang stamp is still trademarked by Queen from what I understand and is occasionally still used.

I was just being snarky. Since your query was in regard to women making the knives. I was implying that was the reason they were called "Queen." If it were men making the knives perhaps they would call it "King" Cutlery, based upon my Alice Through The Looking Glass logic?

Ron, I was just being snarkier!   My guess is before WWII they were primarily made by men.  During WWII  easily half the employees by knife factories were women.

Any Queens come your way for Christmas?

No, I only got one vintage knife and a small multi-tool, in the way of knives this Christmas but my birthday is in April.....lol

Here's a trio of Schatt and Morgans that just arrived from Derek Cooper! I committed to buying them before we were really into the Christmas shopping mode, so I told my wife these were her gift to me this year.

I think it's best to do the shopping myself for the collection, because telling people you collect pocket knives with the expectation that they might get you something you actually want is a lot like telling someone you collect coins and having them save up their pocket change to give you. Nice thought, but you'll usually miss the mark if you're not sure of what a nice addition to the collection would be.

And, when the IKC 2013 collector knife arrives, I will have collected one each of a 1,2,3 and 4-blade Queen variant for this year - a Queen Cutlery Grand Slam for 2013!

By the way, IKC Member Derek Cooper still had several of these knives and others when last we communicated. He's listing several online, but if you favor a particular pattern or style, contact him to arrange a deal. Knives are new in box, believed to be manufactured circa 2000 and are duplicates in his collection.

I have bought from Derek also, easy and wonderful transaction.  The result was one sweet knife at a reasonable price

Back when that happened here in the Northwest, I was about 8 years old and had a fake oversized $20 bill from the County Fair with the artist's rendering of DB Cooper's picture on it.
