Knives have been made at the factory of Queen Cutlery Company of Titusville Pennsylvania for over 100 years. It is arguably the oldest and last American Cutlery that truly continues to produce knives in the same way as they were produced there when the factory opened in 1902. The factory’s first tenant was the Schatt & Morgan Cutlery Company: Queen Cutlery Company displaced Schatt & Morgan there in 1933. Queen City Cutlery Company first began to produce knives in 1918 around the end of the First World War, incorporated in 1922, and shortened their name to “Queen Cutlery Company” in January of 1946. Purchased by Daniels Family Cutlery Corporation on September 18, 2012

I was about to put this up for sale recently and was wanting to double check my facts. It's a Northwoods Scagel #8 Grand Daddy Barlow with sambar stag 4 7/8" closed. There's no date on the tang, just Northwoods Gladstone Michigan USA. I believe it was made by Queen in very limited numbers (100?). Any info that you could share to help me decide on a fair price would be appreciated.

I have been told by Queen informally that they did make this knife- but not the edition size?. I have one of these from a several years back -- I paid 125, and glad to get it - It is a very nice knife with the little Scagel touches and the massive stag. The action is especially smooth - very tight.
To be honest, your photos show such great detail, I think your knife shows a bit more handling, little loss of polish compared to the knife I own. The box was a white plastic hard case, quite nice, with a green cloth bag inside. Best of luck in keeping it or selling.

Yeah, the stag is amazing! So detailed and rich and gnarly! Great action like you said - nice half stop, and I love how thick the blade is. It's the best knife in my collection and a real beast. There's no scratches or marks on it, but I'm at least the second owner and I didn't get it with the box, so I have no idea how it looked mint. I'd love to hang onto it, but it's one of those I can't bring myself to carry and my kid has no interest in knives, so I figure I should just sell it to someone who can appreciate it. I've seen the same knife on AAPK and KnivesShipFree for $250. I can't find one on the Bay. If you got yours for $125 I'd consider that a great deal! Odd that Queen doesn't just come out and say, "Yeah we made those." Some sort of licensing snafu?

Yes, I would not be surprised at the 250 price - it is a truly beautiful knife, and a very serious piece of equipment. And, I would be surprised if was as big as 100 pieces - Your is only the second one I've seen in 10 years. I got mine at a sale, and the guy wanted something before the show ended - and I got lucky. Not sure if my kids will want my knives, but I have determined not to sell. Too sad to watch them all leave, and I figure if they wait longer to sell them, they will eventually get more than I can selling now. Document, show off, everything I can do to convince them of the value of what I own, even if they don't like knives - it will be their problem - I am collecting - they will have to deal with it. Best luck in deciding.
I think Queen has always been shy about discussing private label knives - I don't understand business, but I have heard they only put their own name on about half of what they produce-- who knows?

I have heard that as well Dan. Queen has had their fingers in quite a few different names over the years, but they only really take credit for Queen, Schatt & Morgan, and Robeson. But they've contributed to Winchester, Case, Case Classic, Moore Maker, Cripple Creek, Colonel Coon, BlueGrass, and probably many more that I can't remember.

You'd think a high quality reproduction like this they'd want to take credit for, but maybe Northwoods wanted the kudos. I wish they'd have at least put a date on it to better track it. I lose track of the different makers. I thought Northwoods, like Tidioute, was a subsidiary of GEC, so I thought GEC was the maker at first. Why bring Queen into it?

My apologies if this is not the right place to ask.
Does anybody know if Queen will be at the Gateway Area Knife Show on January 28th?
The Knife Show Schedule on the Queen website states that Queen will be there only on January 29th but it looks like it might be a typo.
Anybody know if they will be there both days?
Thanks.

Dennis,
I think I may have spotted you at the show yesterday but I was engaged in conversation and by the time I turned back around you were gone and I never saw you again.
Saw a guy with a black backpack and a red shirt. Was that you?

The second run of the John Henry Express auto should be shipping next week. My understanding is this run will have Stainless liners rather then Brass. Very cool because that means this first run will be easily distinguished from the first run

We are excited about the handle materials too! There is supposed to be more of the Desert Ironwood, but also Leopard Wood, Black G10, Green G10, Red Acrylic, and Red Shockwood handles.

The Queen show is going on this weekend. The factory would have been open to tours today. Sure wish we could have made it

Good morning from Titusville, PA! The turnout yesterday at the factory for tours was fantastic. After a busy morning of constant tours, knife sales, and information sharing, there was a short lunch break for the factory. During the break, more than 60 people gathered to kick off the afternoon round of tours, and they just kept coming! I visited with people from Canada, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Illinois.
The weather cooperated this year, the factory looked great inside and out, inventory was available for purchase, and as the day went on, the smiles, handshakes, and hugs continued. What a great event!
Today the show begins at noon in a new location, Timberlake Lodge. Dinner with the vendors and people attending the show will close what I am sure will be a busy day. Tomorrow, Saturday, the show will run 8am - 4pm.
This area is beautiful. Camping is how we stay, but there are also great hotels and restaurants to compliment all there is to do and learn about the history of Titusville and Oil City.
We hope to see even more iKnife members here next year!

I wasn't able to set up a dealer table at the show this year, but I did manage to make it there and bring my grandfather along for the day. We had a great time. The new venue was packed, and there was a lot of awesome knives there to see and buy. I managed to grab the trio of newest Tuna Valley's!

A couple weeks ago I stopped into Queen Cutlery ask about a particular knife I had and while there met one of the owners from Virginia. We immediately became friends and he took me into the shop and showed me all the processes of making the knives. As I was about to leave he handed me a blank, but stamped on both sides with their logo and model No. a "Moose Skinner". He said when he came back up to Titusville he wanted to see what I had done with the blank. The pictures are of my finished Moose Skinner using acorns and leaves with a wolf in the middle. The sheath was a challenge due to the shape of the blade but I am happy with the finished product. Any comments are welcome and will accept email as well at pithole@zoominternet.net Have a great day.

There has been some chatter on another forum, about a return. I do not know the people involved nor do I know how the info was obtained other than by some folks. Ken has let me know that as soon as he knows how this will play out he will let me know. I have shared this link with him but understand until he can say something we just wait :( and pray for all involved

After several shows this Spring, and the sad articles in Knife Magazine in both March and April issues. Several venders were reporting direct conversations With Ken Daniels that the company was forced to pursue chapter 7 bankruptcy - I think meaning disposal of resources. Not coming back. A very sad time for collectors and for the Daniels family, especially.
They put a lot time. money, and heartache into the past six years. I have no guidance for how to run a knife business. I just want to say, they made a lot of very nice knives in those years. I appreciate their efforts.
