Just finished my latest creation.  I made everything myself except for the blade, which was pre-manufactured.  The handle is Pacific Coast Myrtlewood, which I had never worked with before, and I'm a little disappointed in the color variations.  (For some unknown reason, staining it with a walnut stain resulted in parts of it looking "dirty.")  Otherwise, I'm pretty pleased with the whole thing.Hope you like it!

Terry, the knife looks pretty good. You need to build you a light box for photos.

That way you can take your photos with out a flash? A appreciate you showing

the knife though. You should make your own blades, not that bad to learn? Look forward to seeing more of your work. What size was this one?

Here is one I just made --- does size matter?  It's going to a friend for his B day.

  • Terry Waldele

T.A., thanks for the critique and advice about the light box for photos and making my own blades.  Regarding my knife's size, the blade is 6-1/2 inches long and the overall length is 11-1/4 inches.

Your knife is a beaut'.  As is the sheath.  I'm sure your friend will treasure them.

Hello and welcome Kenneth!  Glad to have ya join

  • Randy, HHH Knives

Heres one Im pretty proud of, Im not a BIG Bowie guy and dont make many of them. This one was a customer request. and he sent me a drawing.   The blade is High Carbon san mai. O-1 Core with damascus cladding. We forged the blade and hardware.  Guard is 1080 and nickle as is the butt cap. Handle is a frame construction with mammoth ivory and stainless steel.  :)

  • Jan Carter

    Randy,

this is one you should be very proud of.  It is an amazing feat of workmanship

  • Randy, HHH Knives

Thanks Jan! Its at the scrimshader now and then Ill be sending it to COOP for some pro photos!! :)

  • Alexander Noot

Randy, that has got to be one of the nicest things I've seen you make! Lovely, just stunning.

Makes me wonder what it'll look like after scrimshanding.

  • Alexander Noot

    Just finished something

    Made a sheath for it

    Gave it a nice shine

And for the first time EVER put my name on a knife (by special request from the customer...I kind of like it. Think I'll do it more often)

  • Jan Carter

You did a fine job on this one Alexander, it deserved to be the first one with a signature

  • Randy, HHH Knives

Thanks Mr Noot. :)  That knife is awesome! what is that handle?

I agree its worthy of your signature .  for sure!

  • Randy, HHH Knives

Here is some of my High Carbon Neck Knives. I call this design the Travler.

  • Alexander Noot

Thanks Randy, (and call me Alexander please, Mr. Noot is my Dad ;-) )

The handle is one of the canine teeth (corner tooth) of a tiger. The customer came to me with the specific request to turn that into a knife handle.  One of the main problems with that was the fact that it was almost completely hollow. So I filled it up with a resin type material.

He also wanted something with a forge finish. So I did that (it's a reforged Nicholson file) and I polished out the flats to give it a nice bit of contrast.

I polished the tooth a little but hardly touched it since the customer wanted it to look as natural as possible. Pretty much everything down from the white spike on it is the root of the tooth.

That's a nice neck knife. I love the way you do your logo in the handle itself. Seen you do that a few times. What kind of technique do you use to get something like that done?

  • Jan Carter

    Anything new guys?

  • Randy, HHH Knives

HOLY CRAP Alexander. Thats amazing, I never would of imagined using a Tiger tooth!! Very cool!

Ho Jan!! :)  I have a project in the works I call Bad To The Bone Ka-Bar Clone. If you all would like I can do a pictorial or a WIP of the process?

I just had to share this one.  Tony Bose sent me this pics.  It is a Utica Salesman Sample that came to him with a broken back spring.  Notice the swedge work and how it makes the blades just "fit"

A shadow slipjoint with a wharncliffe blade, made by a slipjoint master. It doesn't get much better than that. Todd is really hurting my pocket book, but it is a very pleasant pain :)

  • Jan Carter

LOL Gary.  I can imagine that is a very sweet pain!

  • Jan Carter

I dont know about you folks but this knife is on my dream list!!!  T Bose!
