Here is a quick look at one of the latest additions to my collection; Benchmade's Torrent 890. I must admit that since experiencing the Axis lock, I have a little difficulty looking at Benchmade knives that don't have it. However, after watching YouTube's Nutnfancy's video on the Torrent, I just had to have one. The blade steel is 154CM...obviously a great performer. I really like the blade's length and shape...and contrary to how this photo looks, the steel has a very nice finish on it (bright, but not too bright). The G10 handle scales were a little surprising...predominantly because Benchmade never checkers their G10 in a way that provides aggressive "gription". The Torrent follows in that path, but unlike it's predecessors, the G10 is remarkably "grippy". As an assited-opening folder, the action is EXCELLENT. The liner lock engages nicely, though might get popped open when you grip the handle aggressively. Wait a minute...this is reading like a review. Look...I'll cut to the chase; the big thing that I like about the Torrent is it's incredibly elegant design. If knives could be said to have some kind of "sex appeal", this one is a real "looker" (she's a brunette, boys!). Oh...and as an aside, the overall ergos of the knife are quite good.
