When dragging your finger along the scales on this knife you can feel how the pattern rises and falls as you pass a meeting place of the (somewhat) vertical and horizontal lines in the pattern.  The surface non-flatness isn't obvious when looking at it but you can feel it.  Outstanding machining on the handle of this knife IMO.

Sometimes I take it outside when I walk my dog and look at it in the sunlight.  I know what my dog thinks every time I put her leash on.  She thinks "Dang, he wants to look at his knife again.  Now I have to go outside in the hot sun."  lol  I don't really make a special trip of course but it does look good in sunlight. :)
