Picked up one of these Frost Steel Warrior Wharncliffe whittlers, this past weekend. Plan on modifying the secondary blade into a pen blade.

Ron, It's what Frost called "Pinstripe Wood".  I'm sure that it's some form of lamination.  The knife itself is a copy of a pattern that US Classics did some time ago. Not sure where they got the pattern from, they would take old patterns and reproduce them in small runs of 1200 pieces.

My only complaint with this one was the ridges on the handle.  While they look good, they're not comfortable.  (Taking care of that also.)

I like the slanted bolsters. What is the handle material, J.J.? Like a Delrin or something? That's an interesting pattern.

Frost's steel is ok.  I think I prefer the "German" steel as opposed to what they put into their Steel Warrior line.

These are rockwell tested, so the hardness is there.  Lots of folks really like them, once you get past the "Knife for a buck" deals and get into the pocket knife lines.

I'd still go with a Rough Rider, any day of the week.  Been trying to get them to do a wharnie, for the last 4 or 5 years now.  Just no luck.

We have given these to friends that say the steel on them is ok.  Let is know how it turns out and tell us if you would about the steel.  Most folks think cheap knife = cheap steel but we know RR is an exception to that.  Wondering how this holds up

I would, but the nail pull is too far forward on the blade.  The small pen would look almost stock.  I'll also probably smooth out the scales some.  Updates when done.
