still dont have a new scroll saw.  I do have it roughly cut out but still waiting on grinding belts (im thinkgin about just using my dremel right now on a scrap piece to see it it will hold a edge.  So its just kinda in limbo right now till i get the rest of my tools.

@hog, Its a 160 gig hard drive

The problem might come from the material... I have found out that most platters today are made from hardened aluminum or a ceramic coated in metal.  I wont know until I cut into it.  Either way I'm still going to pursue it until it falls apart in my hand, or is just not working as a knife.

Kit,

What kind of steel is an interesting thought.  It may be that you have hit on something with a wild niche.  Even Techie's need knives, even if to only open boxes and a small neck knife, if it will hold an edge may be just the thing.  I am with Hog.  Impressive thought process on the repurposing

this is the disk from the inside of a harddrive... i have drawn a quick templet on it and might be making a knife out of it, its a little over 1/4th of an inch thick and might work for something this small...
