My latest find.

Higonokami is a Japanese traditional folding pocketknife. Manufacturing Higonokami began in the 1890s.
Higonokami was very popular among children as one of the stationery sharpen a pencil around the late 1950s
but gradually disappeared due to the spread of cutter knife and pencil sharpener.

However in Japan it has become a quiet boom among avid collectors in recent years. In the heyday of 1950s
the number of blacksmith producing a Higonokami were around 40 in the Hyogo Miki City but Nagaokanekoma Seisakusho is a only maker at present.
The registered trademark "HIGONOKAMI" can be used only by Nagaokanekoma Studio(Seisakusho)

I know they're inexpensive

J.J. - I love it!  I've got one too.  I ordered one from Japan quite some time ago because I had bought a number of Higonokami style friction folders made by Shelby Mihalevich and figured I should own an original Higonokami!!
