The knive differs from the Spartan in that the small pen blade is replaced with a fork making the knife a hybrid camp/hobo knife.

Thanks, Toby, for that detailed description!

Wow! At the price you paid, for a beautiful stag handled knife like that, it sounds like a steal to me!

And, *Oh, Snap!* That's right! I had completely forgotten that your Mushroom Knife was also made by Mercury. But, it is not surprising that I forgot. I seem to be forgetting a lot of things these daze.<sic> -- Duh!

Enjoy your new knife -- It looks and sounds like a real winner!

Cheers, my friend!

Hi Ron,

Mercury Knives have been in business since 1950.  Aside from Camp knives, they also make Nautical and Mushroom knives.  So far I have this camp knife and an olive wood handled Mushroom knife.  The build and quality of both knives is excellent.  Fit and finish is on par with American Brand such as Case and Queen.  The materials used are also quality.  The blade steel on the mushroom knife is 440A which is better than found on most mushroom knives. The steel on these knives appear to be of the same grade as you would find on a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. (I put that on par with the Stainless used by Case, Buck, and Rough Rider. The liners are Alox, which is also what you find in Swiss Army knives. As I said, I plan on getting a couple more of these Mercury knives.

This one usually goes for around $72 but I was able to get $56  a month or so ago via World Knives. It was a special offered to Gold Club  Members. While I'm happy to get it at a discount, I think the price is great compared to other quality made Stag handled knives.

This sure is a handsome little devil. How does it feel, in hand, Toby? Does feel as good as it looks? From your pictures, alone, it looks really nice! I'm just not familiar with the Mercury name. That's why I'm questioning the quality of its construction.
