Good work, Luke!

The detective work is what makes our hobby so much fun. And it's educational, too! I enjoy poking around thrift stores and garage sales looking for old knives and then going home to see what I can uncover about their history.

Keep poking around, Luke. The answer is out there! (I think they used to say that on the X-Files?)

Thanks Jan, you are right it is slightly translucent with a very tight grain and nice color.

Well Ron, your pic got me googling, and I found this...

It look like yours and mine combined.

There are 6 blades in the exact place as on mine with a different small blade. But the layout is really close. I found this here: 6-piece 10cm Navette knife with screw, grey horn handle 806 DOUR. and here is a close up of the only mark anywhere..

I'm wondering if the JC is maybe a family elder of this knife's advertiser "Douris-Chastel"

Gonna keep digging. Thanks!

Luke

It's horn. Possibly ram or buffalo?

Here is a pic of a similar type of horn on one of my vintage Robert Klaas "Kissing Cranes" knives...

Yours appears to be a very old Camp or Scout utility type of knife, similar to mine. The one I have has 6 blades (or implements). Here's another view of mine that shows the different tools...

How many blades (tools) does yours have? And, can you provide a picture of its tang stamp or any other markings that might be on the blades? It looks like you scored a very nice knife. I'm curious to see any other pictures of this knifes markings. Those markings might tell us who made your knife.
