I know what you mean Ron I was reluctant to spend a whole lot of money on equipment a few months ago when I started to use a straight . I thought I would start with an Ebay special , much cheaper but then there is the sharpening question ?? I thought it might be an idea to discuss some of these problems in case anyone else thinks of travelling the same route .

Nice collection of razors, John!

Years ago I made a run at shaving with a straight razor. I went all out and bought a very nice Henckels razor with all of the accessories - mug, brush and soap.

That little exercise earned a great respect for the men who went before me and met their daily challenge of whiskers with a straight razor. For, as I soon discovered, the task of shaving with one of these razors is not without its challenges. Challenges that require great skill and dexterity. The first of which is one that still perplexes me? And that of course is getting that stretch of steel sharp enough to cleanly dispense with my stubborn whiskers! And then there's the angle of attack!

Yikes! I'm having flashbacks!

Let me just end this indulgence of memory by stating that it's much easier to use a disposable Trac 2 razor to scrape my face each day. But I sure can admire and appreciate your collection, John!
