Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Since the Mini Coke Bottle pattern of knives is my favorite, I thought I would share some INPUT , that I have been compiling.

Many different Cutlery companies do have these swell center jack knives with of course different pattern numbers etc.

The majority of my mini's are Case cutlery, but I do not limit my collecting to them exclusively.

Please feel free to add any info you have on this type pattern.

I will be adding new INPUT as I get it here in this blog.

Sue

Below is one of my favorite mini's.

Mini Coke bottle Knives

Small Coke Bottle ( swell center jack knife) 251/2

This is a 3" swell-center style jack knife that most collectors call it a small coke bottle.  They usually have a clip master blade, but older versions sometimes have a spear master, and a few pre 1964 25 patterns were made with a razor master blade.  The second blade will almost always be a pen.  Some pre 1940 25 patterns were made without left side bolsters.  The pattern has been manufactured by Case since sometime prior to 1915.

A handle pattern with the center of the handle curved sharply outward at the center; shaped like an old glass COKE bottle. This is also called a "Swelled-Center Jack."

Jack knife

A term for a single-ended pocketknife.  The blade or blades are hinged at one end of the knife.  There are various pattern names applied to jack-knives; such as, Regular Jack, Sleeve board Jacks, Swell-Center, Equal-End Jack, fiddle back etc.

Swelled-Center Knife

A knife pattern with the center of the handle curved sharply outward at the center; shaped like an old glass COKE bottle. This is also called the " COKE Bottle Pattern." Also Swell-Center Jack knife.

Knives of the Viking Age - some considerations

Why do so many small sharpening stones turn up in burials? Because cutting edges were composed of *soft* iron - which required constant sharpening. This is obvious when you look at the condition of so many of the artifact blades - which show a distinctive 'half coke bottle' curvature, the result of repeated sharpening.
