Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I've never "blogged" before, but Jan encouraged as you will see, so here goes:

Jan's note first (this is all copy & paste)

Jan Carter has sent you a message on iKnife Collector
Subject: just something folks might like

Grank,
This is just amazing and I would love for you to share it in a blog!  You place it in there and either Hog or I will be sure it is approved.
A personal Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.  This is the type of activity we should all be involved in.  We can never say Thank you enough to all our Vets.
Jan

Now my note to Jan:
> Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2013 02:09:33 +0000 > From: frank (nibs) dorm... > To: Jan Carter > > I'd like to pass along something that might be of general interest to folks, but it's too big for the "what 'cha doing now" block, and I don't know where it fits.  I just got back from a meeting for the escorts for an Honor Flight trip to D.C. next month.  We'll escort some remaining WWII Vets to see their memorial plus others.  They wanted to tell us to be safe and don't go bar hopping.  Well, maybe a little more than that, but I REALLY hate meetings.  As a Squadron Cmdr, people knew to be at my meetings on time, because they might last only 15 minutes.  I said it once, listened to feedback, decided or delegated, and got on down the road.  Anyway, my Dad flew Navigator and backup Bombardier on a B-24 Pathfinder (the new radar that had a big white dome and made them the primary target on every run) that flew in the lead.  He flew saturation bombing over Normandy just before the troops landed, and he was shot down in the Pelosi raids, but they managed to limp into Sweden and were interned.  Honor Flight out of NE TN//SW VA will take a bus load, one escort & one wheelchair per Vet up on Friday, Oct 11, tour the memorials on Sat & return on Sunday.  Groups of home-school'ers heard about it and are planning flag waving corridors, I understand. Bob Dole may meet us along with our politicians--it'll really max these old guys out (85-95 years old).  I put together a walker with a seat that has foot pegs and a handle to push him, a couple of pouches for a rain jacket, a lap blanket and a reach thing to pick stuff up--and I on put a coffee cup holder for him and one for me and two matching English walnut canes in special holders, and even two matching coffee cups that you can drop without spill or breaking--better than a wheelchair, don't you think?  I found patches for the Army Air Corps, 8th AF, 2nd Air Division, plus his Bomb group and Bomb Squadron that flew out of Hethel Field in England, then I had a vintage leather name tag made and tomorrow I plan to put them on the A-2 leather jacket nobody else bid on on eBay.  I never chat, even at family gatherings, so I don't know what might be fun or interesting, but if you will approve or discard this, Jan, and send it to the best place, I will appreciate it.  Maybe I'll look for an ah-oo-ga horn for the walker (just kidding).  Also, see my Scrambler on eBay starting Sunday afternoon (remember the purple stripe) and somebody find me a 4-bbl intake manifold for a Mopar Poly 318 stroker I'm putting together for my 56 Dodge.

I Think Jan meant it for me; ie. Frank, but you never know. . .
