NEW TO KNIVE COLLECTING. HOW DO YOU PREPARE AND STORE KNIVES? THE GUY I BOUGHT A 40-64 PRETTY BONE ELEPHANT SAID PUT VASELINE ON THE TANGS AND PUT IN CASE? SOUND RIGHT?

not the best ideal to use vaseline have heard of shipping gemstones in vaseline but not metal .i have used gun oil and wax furniture polish on handels.this has worked for me.

Salut JJ. Pour conserver les couteaux = JAMAIS, longtemps dans étui. TOUJOURS bien nettoyer après usage. HUILER légèrement les lames. Le sang, à la longue attaque les lames. A la maison, un coffret, un tissu NEUTRE, poser les lames et............. c'est tout. Regarde un partier de ma collection. André

there is a wonderful product called coon p it is an all purpose synthectic knife care product it prevents rust and corrosion lubricates back springs keeps them in museum condition and safe for all handle materials it is endorsed by national knife museum made in usa can get it from smokey mountain knife works ebay address is eKnifeWorks.com  ps vaseline can actually harm it , it can discolor some materials  my hubby said he highly recommends and uses this on his collection hope this helps!

I have used simichrome, rub on and don't wipe it off, just let it dry and when you want to remove just wipe off. Especially safe for gold etched blades as oil will remove the gold.

 No use Renaissance wax or silcone spray  And get some smichrome polish to clean with. hope this help
