Wow, this is an active community. That is awesome! My first knife was found with a metal detector when I was probably 10 years old. I think I dug up half the front yard finding rusty nails, a couple of coins, and a cub scout knife that was caked in mud. It is sitting on my night stand 30 years later, minus all the mud. There is no name on the knife that I can find, but there is the Cub Scout emblem. I also inherited a pristine fixed blade hunting knife with a stag handle from my grandfather. Not sure of monetary value, but I keep it in my safe for sentimental value. I'm a picker (antiques, not guitars) and a friend's husband passed away about a year ago. She doesn't trust anyone else to help her sell his knife collection, so she asked me to help. I told her I know next to nothing about knives, but I would try. I got a book, The Official Price Guide to Collector Knives, 15th Edition which as helped tremendously. However, I have several Winchesters and Remingtons that are not tang stamped. I'm sure I'll be asking those in the forums about that. Also, a lot of Canton picture knives. A LOT of Case Tested XX knives too. I have found most of those in the price guide. I'm waiting on another Case book and a Fight'n Rooster book. Next time I see her, I will try to get some pictures of the knives.

And don't worry about being a small scale collector. I was too until I found this forum. Now I am growing my collection.
