A knifemakers gathering 20-23 May, Sopot, BG

Hi, guys!

About a year ago one of the best Bulgarian engravers - Evgeni Dimov proposed to make a gathering of the knifemakers in Bulgaria. The idea was to exchange some experience, to meet each other and to keep the tradition alive. Lots of people were interested and and said they will take part in it.

The gathering took place in Sopot - a beautiful town in Central Bulgaria, in the Sopot Esnaf ("Esnaf" means handicraftsmans guild) - two beautiful old traditional houses. Evgeni has built there a forge and made a place for the grinders. Every participant was going to bring his own tools and equipment and show how he is maknig it.

More than 50 makers took part in the event. There were lots of blacksmithing, grinding, knifemaking, beer drinking and fun having. But enough talking, let's see some pics!

Couldn't wait to start grinding:
And forging:

Who said knifemaking is not a dirty work? It is dirty, but is pleasing also!

BIG AND DIRTY I AM!!!

Here I'm showing Brian K. Baity how to grind his knife:

And this is Brian using his new skills:

The knife:

Of cource there were other knifemakers too:
