The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Okay I've waited long enough. I was hoping to get a video up on You-Tube announcing this but I haven’t had the time to do it sothat will have to wait -- I'm launching the contest now! it is open to all current members of the group and anyone who joins the group before November 11, 2014. I will announce the Winner that day, Veteran’s Day.
WIN THESE KNIVES
Answer the following three questions to be entered into the contest:
1. What is your favorite folding knife to use in the Great Outdoors?
2. What is your favorite fixed blade knife to use in the Great Outdoors?
3. What will you do with the prize knives if you win them?
Post your answers to this thread for a chance to win the knives pictured above.
Basic Rules
There are no wrong answers to the questions. The purpose is to stimulate discussion.
Feel free to post pictures with your answers. We all love pictures of knives.
Answers need to appear in this discussion. I'm not going to check other places.
You can enter or reply multiple times but your name will only be entered once! (Let’s face it some of us have more than one favorite Knife!)
I'm not allowed to enter the contest.
The contest is open to any member of the group and to anyone who joins and replies in this discussion by Midnight Central Standard Time, 11:11 am Central time on 11 November 2014.
Winner will be drawn at random by me and announced sometime after 11:11 am Central time on 11 November 2014.
The Winner will then win the knives pictured plus and and probably whatever else I can cram in a flat rate shipping box!
Yes, you read this correctly! The winner will get the knives shown plus other knives in my collection that will remain undisclosed until the winner is announced! Why? Because I haven't made up my mind what the other knives is going to be yet! Either way, you answer three questions about knives and you might win $25-$30 in knives.
The knives pictured are a Cabelas wide belly gut hook skinner and a Wenger advertising knife
Wide Belly Skinner: The blade is made of 7CR17MoV: A Chinese Stainless steel that is similar in quality to AUS6 stainless steel. The follwoing formula is a break down in the steel: 7CR part means it is 7% chromium and the 17MoV means .17% molybdenum and .17% Vanadium The handle scales are stabilized bamboo and are removable. It comes with a nice pancake style leather sheath. Cabelas sticker price was $32.
The Second knife is a Wenger Viking Advertising knife for a company called MGC (blade etch) It does not come with toothpick, tweezers, or key ring. They aren’t missing, it was made with them.
As always, my disclaimers. I will ship worldwide but will only pay up to $10 shipping. If shipping to your country exceeds $10 the rest of the cost is on you. If the knife is illegal for you to own, then any legal entanglements are up to you to work out.
The skinner cut up a forzen hotdog but has otherwise not been used. The Wenger was bout used but appears unsharpened. and should make a good EDC.

What a great contest, I hope I win LOL!
1. My favorite folding knife to carry in the great outdoors, is my favorite folding knife to carry anywhere, Kershaw Whirlwind.
2. My favorite fixed blade to use in the great outdoor is my Gerber, Bear Grylls, Survival knife.
3. What I would do them is, put them to use. Would most likely carry the Wenger as an EDC and put the skinner to the test cutting multiple items.
Folder: Extrema Ratio RAO
Fixed: Bob Dozier Pro Guide
Prize: Folder to youngest niece, fixed to nephew
My favorite folder for the outdoors is the only folder that I usually ever carry indoors or out, my Case Mini Blackhhorn. It might not be a bad idea for me to get a larger folder to carry in a belt sheath since I already have so much stuff in my pockets. That is why I like my Mini Blackhorn, it is so small and light.
The fixed blade that I normally carry in the outdoors is my Rough Rider Sidewinder. The exception is when I go deer hunting, then I go to my Buck Omni Hunter. It is just better suited to field dressing a deer.
If I win, I might give the skinner a try at field dressing a deer. I would have my Omni Hunter standing by just in case. Since the Wenger looks small and light, I might try alternating it in an EDC rotation with my Mini Blackhorn.
1. Folder = Victorinox Traveller that I bought in 1976 & goes w/ me everywhere.
2. Fixed = a little tougher; but I'll say a Ruana 11A, small sticker that my wife got me on our first Christmas together in '83
3. Prize = I'd give these both to my younger son, who could really use a couple more knives. I have plenty.
The favorite folder has changed, as of last week I prefer carrying my Benchmade 581 Barrage. Axis Assist deployment, M390 blade, CNC'd alum bolster and G10 handle.

My favorite folder lately has been one of two Spydercos, the Endura & the Manix 2 Lightweight.
My favorite fixed blade has been the KaBar BK2.
I have been enamored with the Finger hole Skinner since I customized one for my sister in New Mexico. With that being said, i might customize the handle and gift it to a friend who wants a guthook knife when he hunts. The Wenger would go with my other Swiss knives.
My favorite folder is a Great Eastern Moose and my favorite fixed blade is a Treeman. If I win, I'd give the knives to some young hunters.
There are some good favorites listed there!
Favorite folder Case stag Swayback Jack
Favorite fixed blade is a Randall Trailblazer although I have not used it, it is my favorite I use a Case 5 finn
The Wenger would go into the EDC rotation I would have to try out the skinner
1). My favorite folding knife to carry in the great outdoors, is my manix 2 with that convex edge it never misses and is always sharp and ready.
2). My favorite fixed blade to use in the great outdoor is my falkniven f1 it's not the bigest but it sure is light and in a pinch can do anything a big knife can.
3). What I would do them is, put them in my EDC rotation they are both the right size...
thanks on that great chance to win.. that would be a great x-mass present to me
Favorite outdoor folder is a Case X-Changer with its four blades. I have had this knife 4 20 years and have carried it all over North America.
Favorite fixed blade outdoors knife is a Custom I had made by JK Handmade Knives of Mokena, IL it is a upgraded version of the Original Herter's Improved Bowie with a 5" O1 steel blade.
That ugly skinner will be gifted to someone needing a knife and that SAK will go in my pocket!
