Original Style Bowie

by Leopold Lacrimosa on December 10, 2011

Wanted to show off this Bowie by Frank Kramer.

It is in the style that some believe that Jim Bowie actually carried in the "Sandbar" fight.

When you watch one of the new versions of Jungle Book coming out shortly Mowgli is presented with a knife. It's a large Victorian Middleton Bros Sheffield made bowie I sold them. I cannot remember which of the two makers of the new Jungle Book films bought it but when he get's his knife in one of them that's what it is. Traditional bowies are still made in Sheffield.

I just bought Norm Flaydermans book "The Bowie Knife, Unsheathing The Legend" I have not gotten far in reading it but so far I like it. Its not cheap, average price $75, but its huge and full of great pictures. 512 pages. I would recomend for the pictures alone but I plan on reading it too.

Michael,

Great info there!  May look and see if the local library can get it in for me

hopefully they can but bring your book bag, its a heavy one.

Here is a link I found that discusses the original patterns of the Bowie

Thanks Doug!  Some great info in there
