Just a few of my trappers, Case of course...

I still can't take my mind off that. They charge a buck to get into the swap, but you can get your hand stamped to come back in if you want, (or need to run to the ATM!!). I got the stamp because I was still struggling with myself over it when I left. He had other USA Bucks and a couple of other Case knives, and some very nice & costy custom Nevada-made fixed blades too, (he was from Tahoe he said), It really was a case of which did I want the most since I knew I couldn't afford them all, (or truthfully, even afford the one I did buy, been kinda out of control with knife buying lately). I had been looking for a 311 for some time though, so that one was a given, (symptom of addiction.... pure justification going on there). I would've probably paid the $30 he asked if I had to; I've been wanting a 311 for a long long time. I could have easily dropped another $100 or more at his table, and would have if I had the money, it was THAT kind of a swap table.. Too bad he won't be back around again very soon, though that may just be a good thing in my case. I know if I ever go to Tahoe again I'll be looking for him at their local swap.

Thanks again Jan.

Just joined the group, I have several trappers so I guess this is the place to be!

. Believe it or not, having just read the first post and saw the first photos, I actually walked away from a Case Yellow Comp Trapper today at the local swap meet. I only had so much cash on me, so I had a choice between the pictured knife, a 1967-72 Buck USA 311 Trapper, and the Case Trapper laying on the table, (the Case had CV blades in "average" condition with lots of staining). I have other Case knives, namely Russlocks, but not a Case Trapper, and so was sorely tempted to snag both of them. However, I think there are more Case CV Trappers out on the used market than the Camillus-made Buck 300 series, so I opted for what I conceive to be the scarcer Buck, (and avoided a mad dash to the nearest ATM for more money). I'm sure I'll come across a nice Case Trapper one of these days, but today I snagged this Buck 311 for what I consider to be a very reasonable $20. Both blades are tight, well centered, and both blades took an edge nicely. Handles are smooth, without any gouges, and not very worn at all actually. There are no unsightly scratches on the bolsters or the blades, so all in all a nice vintage trapper knife. I'm wearing a Steel Warrior Red Jigged Bone Trapper on my belt today, but will only picture this newly acquired 311. I'll try to get all of my trappers together for a photo shoot to post here soon, but today let's just bask in the glow of  Buck.

Ha, cool! I'm still aglow myself, it was a good find.

Here's a general question about the trapper frame since this is the Trapper Group, I figure someone here must (might) know.

I have 7 different trappers, a Buck, a Camillus, and five various imports, (Steel Warrior, Pride Cutlery, Schrade Taylor). Not one of them has a half stop like most Stockmans, Congress' & other frames do, and neither do my Muskrats now that I think about it. Is that due to the length of the blades, or is that just the "way" trappers, (and Muskrats apparently), are made? Maybe it's just those particular trappers, I dunno. Anyone else notice that?

Thought I'd post some of my Schrade trappers

Very nice Doug!

Great display Doug!

Thanks for the nice comments.  This is my best one, a fully customized Schrade 285UH

Dazzling, who did the customization? Love the burnished blades.

Doug,

I have to ask the obvious, tell me about the cigar box???

In 2003-04 Schrade released their Cigar Box Classics. 4 knives..4-1/8 Trapper, Peanut, 3-9/16 Stockman and a Muskrat. for this collection they brought back the Schrade Walden tang stamp which had not been used since 1973. There was a set in Brown jigged bone, (picture below...I know this is a forum for trappers, but you asked about the Cigar boxes) Green bone and a set in Blue rope jigged bone. The Blue bones were to have been part of Schrades 100 year Anniversary knives and are the most rare. Due to the bankruptcy very few of the anniversary knives were ever released, or for that matter even assembled.  Prior to the bankruptcy Schrade was assembling whatever they had parts for in an effort to beat the bank. There are quite a few of these knives around that are missing shields or blade etchings that I call "unfinished". Beautiful bone handled knives, just not assembled as originally intended.  The Blue bone and Green bone that I have are of the "unfinished variety.

I do have their 80th Anniversary Trapper and the 1982 NKCA trapper
